Any way you can show how you vacuum seal jars and things?
@andiw94834 жыл бұрын
Hello! I watched your video and so glad you prepare. I’m not going through all the comments to see if your question on here was answered. I’m referring to your Mylar bags and Oxygen Absorbers. You can use the Mylar bags for things like cereal however they still don’t last as long as something that had been dried (example beans or oats) and DO NOT use the oxygen absorbers for any type of food that already has moisture in them(example, brown rice, cereal, granola, jerky) it can create a toxic poison in your food. You’re doing great and just wanted to answer your question and I apologize is someone else already has.

The three things that mainly spoil food are oxygen, moisture and light. This is why most people recommend Mylar bags and a cool, dark and dry place to store long term items. This is one of the better pantries I have seen but the work required is immense. Most of these items have about a 2 year shelf life before they spoil when stored in the original packaging and some items that contain baking powder such as the pre-mix pancake and baking items spoil in about a year. Lots of rotating stock to keep it fresh but heck when it’s a survival situation you gonna eat what you can get.

@Yasmine Mitchell Yasmine, start within your budget. I have 3 pantries; a working pantry that I use daily, a short term pantry with 6 months of food storage, and a long term pantry that only has rice, a variety of beans and pasta, some store bought canned meat and some 10 year shelf life items from Auguston Farms, and a few soups and veggies I canned myself. I continue to add to my short term pantry as I can because for my family, 6 months of food is not enough. I only want to go to my long term pantry if necessary. I said all that to say, you can begin a short term pantry by picking up items within your budget ( items you use everyday, canned goods with a 1 to 3 year shelf life, and other items you use stored in airtight containers). I have dry goods (oats, flour, sugar, etc. in a closet I converted into a pantry in airtight containers, along with canned goods (chicken, tuna, a variety of beans, condiments, applesauce, etc). It's only me and my son but I buy a little extra should my daughters need something. I also have a deep freezer I keep full. Always had a working/short term pantry and deep freezer as this was normal when I was growing up. Only starting prepping (2018 ) the long term pantry as I've kept abreast of things happening globally. Just start a little at a time if you haven't already. Get your children involved. It's life's lessons they can carry into the future. Much luck to you😉

@@charm8167 In the US, there are loads of additives in many milk products -- it's more about being on the shelf longer than being healthy. Our milk is almost always "ultra-pasturized" too. Also, too much herbicides being used (glyphosate/RoundUp). I've had Nubian dairy goats for years and their fresh milk is nothing like store-bought white-liquid. I love your prepper pantry. You have so much good preps! 😍 I am curious as to what you use the aloe vera gel for though? I know there is many uses for it but curious to how you use it. For your mylar bags that can be completely normal because the oxygen absorbers only absorb oxygen not the air. So maybe for some you squeezed out more of the air then some other bags. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you know your oxygen absorbers were still good when you threw them in there (soft, not crunchy) and as long as you used the right amount.

Chunky Baked potato and Bacon soup..delicous. 9:00 ...I had a simiiar problem where I lost the seal on my mylar bags....I was told to do a double seal and it started to work good....One trick I picked up , is to use a straw, and suck as much air out as possible, on an open corner... and then double seal it. 11:56 ..I am guessing you don't have Mice or insect issues with your products ? 13:06 ... My family been canned food goods for 5 generations....we all turned out okay...no alzhiemer, no food poisoning, no blood contamination, no probs...as long as the cans are kept in good order ..everything is fine. *BPA* is known to disrupt the endocrine system in the body. It mimics the effects of estrogen and disrupts normal hormone function. Many cans contained a combination of these coating materials. Look for products labeled as BPA -free. If a product isn't labeled, keep in mind that some, but not all, plastics marked with recycle code 3 or 7 may contain BPA . 2019, follow-up tests found that 96 percent of all cans were BPA-free in USA. Sorry for my Long Comment...but I am home, lost my 22yr career, due to covid conditions, and I'm starting over, in my elder years....so I got the time, to make the effort to make a deep comment..LOL

Mylar bags are great but critters can chew through those so put them in bins. Rubbermaid or similar. Buckets also don't need to be food grade if you are just putting in packaged food. Looks great.
@worldofappolonia4 жыл бұрын
Cathy thanks for letting me know that I should also store them in bins.

Just came across your video here in 2023 .. thank you so much for taking the time out to show us inside of your pantry! It's some of us young ladies out here who became moms young and didn't have a solid support system to help guide / give this type of knowledge that could of been such a Godsend for us with our kiddos! To an extent, thank goodness for the internet and for the people like you who do make these types of videos because you've really given me a better understanding on how to do this! Thank you again and hope that you and your family are well!!

Thank you for showing us your pantry area. I’m just starting but it’s better than never right. But I appreciate it as I will be practically copying for the most part essentials of what you showed, among other stuff. I was curious if you would be doing posts on family binders and prep for those? Thanks again!!!

Packets of things, like taco seasoning, ranch dressing, gravy - they store easily in an over-the-door shoe holder, which also can be used on the wire shelving instead. BTW - your pantry is so nicely organized; thanks for sharing a peek!

I love this tour ! Thanks for sharing. Makes me feel “ ok” to see that others also store the food & other items where they can find space! I recently created space for a small shelf behind my bedroom door & I have items there! I want to get a shelf unit for my kitchen that I can store things !!👍🏻 it ain’t always about things being pretty !!😊

the sealing isn't your fault, necessarily...it could be a bag mylar bag. Most of the time, i have found that mylar bags need a clothes iron instead of a vacuum sealer. And pasta doesn't need to be vacuum sealed, it should be okay without that even long term.

In my experience when I package my spaghetti noodles the bags don't get tight like the other bags do. I'm not sure why but I figured if they are sealed, then its good enough for me for now.
@eyes2see4383 жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed sometimes when I put my spaghetti in Mylar bags, it doesn’t seal. Look for pin holes in the bags. Sometimes it’s the spaghetti and once I noticed when I received them, they had tiny holes.
@laceyb813 жыл бұрын
I seen a hack to pack your spaghetti in left over cereal bags and put it in the mylar bag to protect it against tiny holes. Also they have like a 7 thickness which is supposed to be super durable but sharp

The dry milk is ok. But, you can add some to the shelf stable for a little extra protein. You can also add in if you make yogurt. It works great in pancake mix or any baking mix.

Awesome I need to keep on prepping it just sucks that my husband hates it and doesn’t see the need for it I kinda stopped because things started to kinda look up I wasted 3/4 months not really prepping to much 😭
@worldofappolonia4 жыл бұрын
Britt, maybe your husband will come around to prepping eventually. Have you stopped prepping completely?
@genzprepper9544 жыл бұрын
@@worldofappolonia no but I also kinda sometimes get panicky and try and buy a lot at once instead of gradual small trips I just don’t really know where to start. And at first I didn’t buy foods that we eat like yes we will eat them but I focused more on long term in a way. So I need to get like you this is awesome! He said as long as I can find it in our budget and not to just go out every month and spend $300+ dollars on only prep I have to give myself a budget and I get confused on which hauls what I should get if I should focus on “okay this week I’ll just get drunk mixes $40 of drink mixes” idk if that makes since
@sheilabrown53674 жыл бұрын
@@genzprepper954 I would say get what your family eats daily weekly monthly once you have a good supply of that then I would start on my longterm I just pick up stuff every 2 weeks payday whatever we use I replace .Another good tip many have posted is to rotate your food by date .Keep prepping your husband will thank you later prices are going up already .Good Luck
