In this video, I walk through the basic steps I take when prepping a Mix Session (sent from a client). Although it seems like a simple task - I find that separating this process from the creative side of mixing, helps me be more creative and focus on the mix.

Good stuff, as always. I would highly recommend you getting Metric AB for referencing tracks. Amazing plugin that often goes on sale.

The shortcut for Console One is amazing! Is it Macro? I'm also a big Console One user. That's so fast that I really like to try.

Excellent. I would love to see you demonstrate how you would use the Listen Bus in version 5 in conjunction with Sonarworks Reference 4. I know there is a little bit on that out there already, but it seems to not be thorough and I have built a trust with you anyway, so I prefer seeing your demonstration. Thank you Marcus!

Can't get enough of your videos, Marcus! Everything you show us is so useful! You're as good a Studio One ambassador as Gregor! And you make the best videos for Revoice and other Synchro Arts products as well! Any plans on jumping to Patreon? I would sign up with eyes closed, as I'm sure many would do! I've been using Studio One for months, but I recently switched from Pro Tools as my main DAW for working. AAFs eork very well, without the hassle of consolidating tracks. The only problem I have now is all the Protools sessions that I would love to translate to Studio One, as that's not an easy task. I'm somehow inside the world of software development and I was thinking on creating a tool that would automate the process, and translate much more info (plugins/presets,busses, auxs, automations, etc) than the actual only tracks and crossfades/edit points. Do you think something like that could be useful and worth paying for or presenting to Presonus?

Marcus what was the reasoning behind you routing busses to a mix bus that would then route out the main bus... I typically mix similar tracks to busses which goes way back to my live analog sound days but that normally would go out to the mains, you subrouted that to another bus which I found interesting, and was wondering what is your logic in that.

He does this so that the reference tracks (that he added at the end of the video) are not being affected by the plugins and processing on his MIX BUS. e.g. if you bring in “hotel California” as a reference track it is sent directly to the main out channel avoiding all of the compression, eq, and other processing that he has on the project he is mixing.

Hi Marcus , I am clearly not so clever but I never understood at around 3:00 how you managed to achieve a headroom of -12.7 db within 1 second !! You used blunt force 😄 Does this mean that you went through every track or event and turned the track or event down with -10 to -12 db ?

Select all tracks... Mouse over the Input Gain knob and mouse-scroll down. You might have to toggle the input gain in the mixer options if you can't see it.

@@MaximeCloutier This methode only gives meaning when all the tracks have about the same loudness otherwise you need to find out how much every track has to be reduced 😄

WHAT’S THE CONSOLE 1 SHORTCUT?

Whoa... sorry I was yelling. Guess I got too excited. I also use C1 on every track in other DAWs (PT, Reaper, Mixbus 32C, and Davinci Resolve/Fairlight), and since I bought the 4848 and it came with S1Pro, I’ve been deep diving and loving it. That shortcut to load Console 1 on all channels is a huge time saver. (Also curious your thoughts on adding the Softube Tape MTK in that special place, then C1 across all tracks vs CTC1)
