Agreed on the charity shops, they should get the money in the till, and if a customer gets a bargain, so what, that customer will return or tell their family and friends, the charity shop will in effect get more future money in the till.

I worked for a women’s charity shop, 2 of the staff use to go through the shop and take loads for next to nothing to sell on line. It made me so cross and after I confronted the manager guess who left, not them!!! I just couldn’t watch them cream the charity and the manager said well they work the hardest 😮

Oooof!!! Slip phobia . . . I don't like wet leaves or muddy paths . . . treacherous and (frankly) dangerous. Couldn't agree more about the established jewellers, old family firms are the best. They take the time to explain what you have not just what it is worth.

I go to a gold and coin dealer who gives spot price less 5-10 percent commission, which is much better than a jeweler or pawn shop here in my area. Sounds like your jeweler is giving you a very decent deal.

I would understand charity shops selling gold online, although even that has its issues. But I completely understand them not wanting to keep it in the shops. They're staffed by volunteers, often elderly and I think it puts them at risk.
