Feel encouraged to get behind the camera and talk for 10 minutes. For us civilians we hear about gear all the time, the theory part is what is rare in KZbin videos.

I went through the Marine Amphibious course in North Fork Virginia twice with two different Engineer units from Fort Bragg back when I was a paratrooper. Each time we went through a water proofing course especially for our Prick 77 Radios. Yes, I am that old, but I still remember the water proofing technique for the radios so you can use them after you hit the beach. The army teaches how to use your poncho to water proof your rucksack so it can be used as a raft. Combining the two methods ensures the best out come. Back then we used the same garbage bags and 100mh tape to eliminate sharp edges and secure/make pull openings like zippers. 550 cord lashed everything down. The tape worked well to keep the water out. That was great training with the Marines and Navy scaling the ship with the big nets over the side to the landing vehicles below. Nothing like taking a dip in the ocean in January and February at North Fork. Hoorah!

More fond memories!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 prepping for beach and surf! Sugar cookies!!!! In the early 90’s, we experimented with the horrendous army’s cfp-90 pack system. Terrible! Not airborne or amphibious capable! It sank on water ops. Nothing beats good old ALICE! The MALICE rocks! Still use it post retirement! That and the TT 3-day assault pack. Ever get a chance to check out Arbor Arms, great gear, owned by a former Scout-Sniper.

I forget if I learned this in boot camp or at SOI, but to reinforce zip lock bags you lay them down flat and layer strips of riggers tape or gaffers tape across them parallel to the zip section. Double up on the sides and bottoms seams as those take the most strain. I still have the first one of these I made, still going strong. You can use clear packing tape if you have a need to see inside the bag too, but I wouldn't recommend it for papers or maps as it can be blurry. For labeling, use one strip of white duct tape to write on with Sharpie. I've seen this done to contractor bags as well, but that's a ton of tape. Gaffers tape also works good for reducing sharp edges like on NVG helmet mounts, and for silencing and reducing glare on things like you locking carabiner. Sharing sleeping bags is great but don't forget your boot bands.

I’ve used reinforced bags before, but never for amphibious stuff. Works pretty well. Unfortunately I unbloused my boots to let the sea water drain…

Good stuff. I never thought of tethering myself to the ruck. I have had good luck augmenting the ziplocks with LokSak bags for the essentials that must never get wet like batteries, paper maps, hygiene kits, and medical etc. The Sak’s are expensive but the seals don’t break when jostled and are a little more durable than ziplocks.

The only reason I'd have thought of it would be from being a paratrooper. The lowering line has an emergency release so you can jettison your equipment.

Great Video.Thank you for that! Quick Tip for the ZiTies: when you clip them with a Nail Clipper, there are no sharp edges anymore. Did I get it right, that you put your Plate Carrier into the Backpack?
@TheGruntPerspective5 ай бұрын
Thanks! And yes for this one we had to put our slick armor in our packs and wear the chest rig. When we got closer to enemy contact we put the plate carriers on and drape the chest rigs over the top

@@TheGruntPerspective very interesting. Why don’t you use the issued waterproof dry bag?

Trash bags were the thing when i was in too, have you used or tried I think there called sealine bags. There the ones you fold over a few times and then clip it together to seal it. usually compressing them but was wondering if you have tried them, in the flotation sense not compressing there air out? if you know what i mean.
@TheGruntPerspective5 ай бұрын
Yeah I know what you’re talking about, I’ve never used them though because I don’t trust the “1 way” valve to work
@tylersimplot135 ай бұрын
@@TheGruntPerspective Those are the ones I mean bur like two days ago I saw someone do a video and I guess there is another version with no valves so you cant completely collapse them. Im thinking stronger than a trash bag but dependable
@Jedwoods5 ай бұрын
@@tylersimplot13 I've used them, they work well - I like the Sea2Summit if you can get them. The only consideration is making sure they match the dimensions of your pack - if you get a big liner that is a narrower diameter than the main compartment of your bag, you'll lose a lot of volume that way. If it is a wider dimension, it can be weird to fill and seal them (but that's less of a problem).
@judabonfatti80265 ай бұрын
Ice bags are pretty good too. Way thicker and more resistant than trash bags. To close them you can twist the top and secure it with rubber bands, instead of zip ties. I've done it for years and it works well enough
