The SOUND coming from those cars is INCREDIBLE! I'd love to have just one of those fantastic machines of the 20's/30's. Cars aren't what they used to be. That's for darn sure. No more 'mechanicalness' to them. Just computers and sensors! The 20's and 30's were surely the "heyday" of motor sports. Even NASCAR of today is so darn GENERIC. All the cars have to be the exact same or you get thrown out? HUH? What happened to the days of "I just one up'd you when I showed up with a supercharger affixed to my engine, what do you have next?" "Catch me if you can" That was RACING! When engineering of the car and it's engine was how you won races. And pretty much anything you could bring to the race was fair game. Sure, they did have a few (very few) safety standards but it was considered fair game if you showed up with a bigger engine than that of your competitor. That was the idea. That's how some incredible cars were built over the years. Trying to "one up" the other guy.

That`s what these cars were built for, not being transported from car show to car show in climate controlled transporters never to turn a wheel in anger.

That's why the investors and not the drivers have occupied the old car scene only to show the cars at Bebble Beach or the next auction !

Great video - thanks! Some very skillful car control there - never seen ERAs act like go-karts before ;-) And that Morgan 3-wheeler looks very quick. Also the Austin Sevens appear to have a lot more power than I remember.
Good audio, good cameraman/men. Also, whether by luck or judgement, you seemed to be in the right place at the right time!

Nice film and good selection of vintage racers. We were at Prescott a few months ago and made this short film of some of the racing as well. Check it out.

Some of those cars are stupid fast for the prehistoric brakes and tires they run these things on. I'd love to see this event in person some day. I feel dumb for asking but what is the very sexy sounding sky blue racer, car number 170, that is featured multiple times in the video? I love the look and the sound of that car... The exhaust note in the mid range, and the whine of either a straight cut gear box or a blower is clearly heard. It sounds fantastic even on video, it must sound incredible in person. The blue 147 is pretty awesome as well, but 170 sounds nicer.

What are the rules in this race? It seems like you can race with heavily modified car like the blue 170 thing together with proper vintage cars? Anyway thanks for the video!
@jcgabriel15692 ай бұрын
Theyre all vintage cars. The blue no. 170 is an old single seater ERA, it even raced in Formula One in 1950!

Amazing footage - I was wondering if I could ask your permission to extract audio from this clip (and others) to use as sound effects in a not-for-profit audio-adaptation I'm producing of 'New Corner', a short ghost story by LTC Rolt, set during a disasterous hill-climb event circa 1938. Rolt was among the founders of the Prescott course and appears to have based his fictional 'Highbury Hill' on Prescott, so it seemed appropriate to try and source sound effects "from the source", and you've got some of the best quality recordings I've seen of appropriately vintage cars burning petrol, dope and rubber on the bends and corners of Prescott.

Yes, just a glorious snarl there.. It's a 1935 Frazier-Nash with I believe a 6-cyl 1.5L OHC Blackburne engine.

Was the Morgan 3 wheeler piloted by that somewhat famous and very fast female who's name I wish my old brain could recall... (?) Sue Darbishire?

I wonder what one of these could do if they made some custom tires with modern compound and some modern brakes.

For some reason, this comment of mine has been getting endless spam replies to it giving out scam links. Don't click any of them if they aren't already removed by me or youtube (I don't believe any haven't been auto-removed yet)

Most of those tires are probably modern compound. I don't think there are race slicks for any of them, though. As for modern brakes, where's the fun in that?
