I thought the ending showed the presence leaving the house and ascending into Heaven.

I also thought the presence was the Grandma. (Remember the conversation between the dad and Chloe?) The scene where the books and school supplies were being put away seemed maternal.

It did. When the lady who was sensitive visited, she said that the presence likely didn't know who it was, but that it may be here to do something that it might not even be aware it was meant to do. At the end, by saving Chloe, he completed that purpose. It spoke to the sibling bond, his love for his sister (that's why he organized her binders and put her book away). In the "original/first" timeline, he might have died on the couch from an overdose, which is why the presence didn't know what was going to happen to Chloe. Then as he watched things unfold (Tyler putting the fentanyl in Chloe's drink the first time) he realized he had to protect her (likely still not knowing who he was). So he woke himself up forcefully, and instead of dying on the couch, he saved his sister and died from the fall. This completed his purpose and he was able to ascend to heaven/finally leave the house. Another clue of who the presence was (even though the presence didn't know) was when he averted his gaze when Chloe was having sex with Tyler. Who wants to watch their sister have sex, ya know? That's my take.

It would make more sense if the spirit was Nadia and then she got her revenge so her spirit could move on in the end but now Tylers spirit is there for the next family who moves in so Tyler can move do his good deed to be able to move on too and be free out the house.

Nah it really wouldn’t have made Sense for it to be Nadia at all. Tyler was the one who died. He was the one who felt guilt for not listening to his sister or being there for her…he was the one who let the psycho in who got close to her. It makes sense it was Tyler all along.

@politefan8141
@politefan8141 5 күн бұрын
@@jpierce8148 No, it totally makes sense for it to be Nadia. 1. Chloe senses Nadia when the spirit literally passes through her. Neither she nor the medium suspect it's Tyler even when he's in the room with them. 2. You hear a female scream in Tyler's ear to wake him up. 3.Nadia already has a motive, having been murdered by Ryan. 4.If Tyler were the Presence, why would he allow himself to die in such a preventable way? The Presence intervenes multiple times to protect Chloe. It doesn’t make sense that it would fail Tyler so spectacularly. The medium also tries to warn the father, meaning there was an outcome where both Tyler and Chloe could have survived. 5.Chloe describes what it feels like to drown in a scene with Ryan, hinting at her heightened sensitivity being around the presence of her friend who was suffocated to death. 6. Had it been Tyler all along, the presence would have affected him more and he would have been able to intuit a lot more about Ryan. 7. The medium even says the spirit is confused by past and present and doesn't mention the future or time travel. I liked the film but don't like the ambiguous ending not because I don't think ambiguity has its place, but because the film is supposed to have an omnipresent narrator. I like the Nadia theory better. It doesn't even dilute Tyler's sacrifice. In fact, it makes it even more tragic that he died without the others knowing the true nature of his sacrifice.

@@politefan8141 I see where you’re coming from, but the film definitely revealed that the presence was Tyler all along. Yes, Chloe thought it was Nadia, but only because she just recently died. She couldn’t have known the presence was Tyler. The presence, as told by the sensitive lady, does not know its purpose, nor who it is, and would be confused. The presence could not do anything about Tyler‘s death, it all happened relatively fast. When it comes to the presence being stuck in time, the past present and future are all happening simultaneously. Similar to Haunting of the Hill House, and the bent neck lady for instance. The presence was Tyler all along, and the reason why, in the beginning the presence was in the closet before the family moved in, was because that was the room where Tyler fell out of the window. Essentially, the resting spot for the presence.

So the ghost is Tyler??? Yet 1) tylers ghost is observing himself and 2) the exorcist lady refers to the ghost as Nardia 3) Tyler even senses the ghost in some scenes. This is just a gigantic mess being patched over as some weird past-present-future-fate route. It leaves the audience with questions because it's nonsense

I guess it’s because ghosts aren’t subject to the physics we are including time. The ghost of Tyler is stuck in that house because that is where he died. Tyler dies there so he ends up haunting the house.

The psychic explains that spirits don't perceive or live in time the way we do and perceive it. They jump in time and can get confused as to their purpose and identity. And she never confirms or identified the spirit. She picked up on the loss that Chloe had and Chloe says Nadia's name. But the lady then says that she can't figure out the spirits identity only that it is upset and confused, trying to figure it's identity and purpose out at the same time as the main character, essentially paralleling her characters mental state at the time too. If you look back to the times the spirit acted out it was when the creep was around and it reacted to Tyler when he had that outburst toward Chloe, which I feel is the spirit of Tyler getting mad at himself for having been so callous and indifferent to his sister while he was alive. Again it's the spirit of himself, imagine reliving your life and looking back at all the times you would have wished to stop yourself from doing or saying something you later regretted. Spirit version of that.

You're missing the concept. It’s at this point we discover Tyler was actually the poltergeist in the house. Earlier in the film, we hear medium Lisa (Natalie Woolams-Torres) explain how time works differently in the spirit world, with the presence in the house possibly tied to a past or future event. As such, it’s implied Tyler’s ghost went back in time to prevent the sister’s death.

Well seeing how it's Tyler's spirit, if you remember the spirit was observing Chloe and her dad talking alone and in the living room after the psychic left and Tyler leaves and his wife made a remark before leaving too, leaving the dad feeling like he failed them. He makes a remark about how he's sorry and how he made things worse and the spirit goes upstairs and hides in the corner of the closet. After this moment the ghost becomes passive and doesn't do much until the finale, aside from protecting his sister from being drugged the first time around. It seems like Tyler felt bad for scaring the family with his angry outburst from before and chose to not do anything to warrant any attention or further strife for his family. Until he witnessed what his "friend" was up to.

I mean kinda weird 🤔😕 like I get the siblings bound but the whole his spirit thing is kind of off? To me like how is he in a time loop anyways unless we the audience are seeing the brothers memory and he is in some kind of purgatory reliving his time loop over and over again.

I don't think it's a loop. It's 1 go around. He died in the future and his spirit stayed there eventually getting lost and traversing through time and ended up being present before they moved in in the first place. By then he lost his sense of self or purpose though and as he spent time with his family, and probably instinctively felt protective and resentful of his inept attitude towards his sister, he felt compelled to stick up for her because he never did when he was alive. I think the spirit instinctively knew or felt off about the friend Tyler brings home because when that character is introduced, the spirit moved with much more speed and urgency. As if he felt off about that friend or was remembering what he did. It's a movie that when you finally see it end, you have to go back and think about all the things that happened with the newfound knowledge and perspective of the character you've been following the whole time that you didn't have before. It changes everything.

Explanation: The movie is boring. The twist: Basically one line from the "medium" we're not calling a medium: time works differently for ghosts [bollocks] and the ghost doesn't know "when" it is. Surprise, it's the dead brother from the future coming back in time to help save his sister ... after he dies saving his sister ... because he helps himself wake up to save his sister and dies in the process, becoming the ghost that ... helps ... himself. Whooppee!! A time-traveling ghost! Sooo original! Too bad the movie is boring AF, the characters are all unlikable, and it's marketed as a horror movie, which it's absolutely not...
