The present continuous tense is used to describe actions happening right now, temporary actions, or future plans.
Formative Rule:
Subject + [am/is/are] + verb(-ing)
Structure:
1. Positive:
• Subject + am/is/are + verb(-ing) + (object/complement)
• Example: She is reading a book.
2. Negative:
• Subject + am/is/are + not + verb(-ing) + (object/complement)
• Example: They are not playing outside.
3. Interrogative:
• Am/Is/Are + subject + verb(-ing) + (object/complement)?
• Example: Is he working on the project?
Key Points:
1. Use am with I, is with singular subjects (he, she, it), and are with plural subjects (we, you, they).
2. Add -ing to the base verb:
• play → playing
• write → writing
3. Spelling changes for some verbs:
