Overacting is much easier that underacting... which he also does v well. Using restraint.

everyone's saying that he's overacting but they forget that he is acting on a stage in front of a live audience, not for the camera. he has to project so that the last person in the last row can see and hear him. besides, this is a farce so it's meant to be a bit exaggerated. I think his performances are great, tbh. he's a fine actor, indeed. very versatile.
@sonnypryderi4 жыл бұрын
also the whole point of the character is that he's overacting?
@ctfangirl4 жыл бұрын
gwen yes. Bliss is correct that it’s a farce, overacting comes with. Then add a character who’s a total drama queen and Scott might have actually been under acting
@donnadoubtfire1004 жыл бұрын
You've missed the point. He is acting the part of an actor who overacts. It's the delight of the character, he always overacts but takes offence when the other characters accuse him. No one thinks Andrew Scott is overacting. He is, as always, undisputably magnificent.
@ctfangirl4 жыл бұрын
donna doubtfire who are you accusing of missing the point. Every comment is saying that his “overacting” is intentional.

@@danip3270 It was sort of a spur of the moment thing but so worth it. It was a matinee as I had a train back home the same day. Andrew was just hyper and super energised! How he kept that energy up I don’t know! I hope you’ll be able to see him on stage one day! Maybe you can catch the cinema version at least?

@@KETTYKISH I’ve traveled spur of the moment before. Sometimes those are the best trips! I live in the US, but once flew to Dublin to see the Eagles in concert. I had missed their US tour, and saw they were headed to Europe. I went last minute, got great seats, and had a great experience. I ended up sitting next to a bunch of young Scottish guys who were traveling around Europe, going to concerts. They were icing on the cake 😂. I let my passport expire last year during COVID, which was stupid. I love a lot of different actors, but Andrew Scott is by far my favorite. His empathy, quick wit, and skill really are unique. Good looks don’t hurt either 😉😍. Funny that you mentioned his hyperactivity, since I’ve noticed how bouncy he gets in interviews, too. It sounds like the role suited his natural inclinations. I’m curious how you got tickets. Is there a central website to buy them from, or to be alerted to an new show opening up?

My husband wasn’t well when this was being offered during the fundraiser. I can’t find it available now with the National Theatre, even for purchase (which I would happily do, at a premium!). Does anyone know if this will be available again someday? Or does anyone have an idea how I could see this performance?
@Aloizza3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, for now, there's no way to see it, legally or otherwise. You can't purchase it anywhere, and there's no pirated version of this (believe me, I searched every nook and cranny of the Internet for this, of course I'd much rather pay for it but I'm really desperate). We'll just have to hope that one day National Theatre will release it for streaming.

He was ridiculously young for the role. The famous line about the supposed age of the character is not to be taken literally, it is obvious that the character is well past 50. Also, gender-flipping one of the supporting roles renders the fear of the homosexual comedy relief character utterly pointless.
