Awesome job on wild berry preserves. What a great gift. Don't know if I'd transplant berry plants. Maybe clean out wild growth that's suffocating them. Your property, so you know best! Replacing sidewalk is major work, multi-step process for leveling to prevent sinking. We did it with patio squares 14"×14". Turned out great but took forever doing it solo. So worth it in the end. Used "This Old House" online tutorial. Great instructions & free.

Awesome, thank you! My mom suggested cleaning out the growth around the berries instead as well, so I will have to see what's best

Save those peice of cement and use them to make a border around your trees or your garden for next year,then you can paint them in bright colors...also if you find used tires you can use them around your trees but cutting one side all the way through and fill around the inside of the tire with soil and plant some flowers or your chose also you can paint them too.

That is perfect jam. Congratulations❤❤❤❤ I had 18 dozens of ear of corn given to me this week that was one more job. I put some up on the cob the rest as cream corn.

Last week we canned like 20 jars of bread and butter pickles and 8 jars of kosher dills. We prepared a bunch of corn for the freezer, made cream corn and bagged it in vacuum bags for the freezer and lastly did some beets to put in the freezer. My daughter wants some pickles too so they all won’t last long. I hadn’t planned on doing all of this in two days but a friend brought us a case of beets and a case of corn on the cob. Hubby needs a vacation now since I had him doing a lot of the work this time. He’d never canned anything before on his own so he got a crash course lol. Love the jam you made. It looks fantastic.

Nothing compares to black raspberry jelly! Nothing! We love it! We take the seeds out. Definitely transplant the vines and make yourself your own berry patch. Blackberries don’t have quite as much flavor as black raspberries but mixing them together is fine. Just use more black raspberries than black berries. Gifting jelly is nice but keeping it for yourself is better. Lol Banana bread makes nice gifts too! 😊

Make sure you soak the blackberries and black raspberry in water to get rid of any nasty little critters like maggots, Also wild blackberry bushes invade quickly , trim them back often , we had them in the lane behind our house, from small plants to crazy invading bushes in one summer, now they are just a darn nightmare

Thank you Donna ☺️ I had unknowingly been living here for the past year without an updated certificate of occupancy, oops! So when I had to bring a city inspector out to give me the a okay, the sidewalk is one of the things I had to fix before I could legally live here. Not ideal, but all will work out in the end

I love seeds in my jam. Where I grew up there was woods and fields where farm land was. We used to eat wild raspberries there and I took my shepard/mini greyhound running there every day. There was a pond and brook. We would slide around on the poñd during the winter. Much fun 😺!!

Go to your local equipment rental center, and rent a power jack ( small), and break the sidewalk up in smaller pieces

I've never canned anything myself, but kudos to those who do. I love seeds in my jams, but find those hard to find at almost any grocery store. Don't care for strawberry jams as much as blackberry jams and the like. So, happy munching! Peace 🕊️

If yoirs are the same as our "black raspberries" they are actually a vertical black berry. They were also used in tje development of some of the Marion Berry, Logan Berry, and other cultivars.

@DumpsterCam

Thank you! Luckily they said I can just fill it in and level it with dirt if that's what I chose to do, but I liked my sidewalk 🫤 I thought it was cute, and had the handprints of 2 kids that lived here in 1977, I still don't understand the whole tripping hazard thing on my private property, but it is what it is.
@Gamgamjay
@Gamgamjay Жыл бұрын
@@DumpsterCam can you salvage the piece with the handprints and put it in your garden? Some regulations are odd. At least grassing it over is a cheaper alternative to new concrete. Oh the joys of homeownership 🤣

I don't use pectin in small harvest of berries. I don't even cook them. I chop them up fine....add sugar...let it sit in fridge overnight....add just a little (pending on amount of berries)just to cover them....back in the fridge for a few hours...then i add a package of jello..strawberry usually the most no matter what kind of berries....i add a can of pineapple juice and all...mix it all up...jar it....back in fridge over night....and jam/jelly is done. Lasts a good 6-9 months. Just a faster way of making jams...and less messy.

Are wild black raspberries like raspberries when they grow? Wild raspberries are a two year plant. The first year just leaves second year fruit. They reseed themselves. I just cut the old canes out in the spring so they have room and light.

My wild blackberries last year started, though very green and full of fruit, have shriveled on the top of the plants. The berries have not matured fully. They stop halfway. Stay green and stop. No bugs. It looks like they are reacting to something external. Any ideas? Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I used to watch my mom, Gramma, great aunts but they never taught as they did it.
@DumpsterCam

Hmmm, this is my first year with the wild blackberries so I'm not entirely sure. The only thing I notice with mine at least, is that the ones that don't get full sun are not maturing/not maturing nearly as fast as those that do

Well,i don't understand,your sidewalk is on tour property only for your use, correct?? Its not a public walkway,is it?? Your r jam looks delicious. I hope your get way more blk raspberries.. My inlaws ise to translant a row or two every year in the old garden spot. My mil would make blj raspberry jelly without seeds as we all have dentures and seeds are quite painful.. she would make some cobblers with it too and all the grandchildren just loved it. I'm sure you're going to enjoy all of yours as you're already enjoying your jam.👍💜
