Preserving George Washington's Home

Throughout the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association’s 160-year history, we have faithfully preserved George Washington's Mansion, together with more than 30 historic and reconstructed buildings, and the landscape upon which they sit.
Thanks to ongoing research and scholarship by our staff and newly acquired historical documents, we now have the opportunity to more accurately interpret and present the rooms of the Mansion to 1799, reflecting the appearance at the time of Washington’s death.

It was a thrill to visit Mount Vernon 5 years ago!! I was astonished at the foresight of the efforts taken to preserve the view across the Potomac! That view is something indescribable, to think of the Washington's and all those throughout the centuries, who looked across to see the same thing we see today. What a timeless treasure.

I remember my history Groege's father's older brother had built Mt. Vernon estate in 1674 his father inherited the estate sometime around Geoge's birthday So I say its almost 30 years old
