Nothing like fresh veggies and fruit in the winter time that you did in august happy cannimg

Hey Carla, canning brings back a lot of memories. Growing up, we had a large garden and my mother canned everything for the winter and of course, I had to help and that meant work, which I didn’t like. You will laugh at this. I used to ask her why are we not rich like my friends and buy food in cans at the grocery store. lol. Now I realize how much better everything tasted. Needless to say, I haven’t done any canning since.❤

Oh I can relate! I always wanted the prepackaged food too, not the "homemade" food when I was younger. Now I realize how much healthier it was, but yes, a lot of work. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, I would be livid (internally- but forgiving) if my husband unplugged 1 of my 2 freezers like you have. They are so convenient. Probably have 14 bags of blackberries I picked and 12 containers of fresh frozen raspberries from my garden.That takes a ton of time and effort to do! Also freeze meats and desserts. Love my freezers. Your canned goods and frozen items are a gift of love to your family, plus healthier because you know what went into them.

It was heartbreaking but he felt SO bad. I’m just starting over this Summer and already have it half filled. 👍🏻. Have a great evening Marie. 😊

I remember my mother canning and freezing fruits and vegetables. We used to pick berries together and when freezer jam became popular, we both switched to that process, so much easier and we could lessen the sugar a bit. Thanks for the memory boost.

Lots of work, Carla. I used to can tomatoes, but I no longer do. I admire those who keep up that tradition. Everything looks wonderful. Happy canning!

Your Harvest looks great! Thanks for the tip about using zinc! Great idea! Love the different selections. It may be hard work but it adds to the mood of welcoming Autumn. My favorite season. Thanks for sharing! 🍁🥒🍅

I agree Brenda. I was so surprised to see the results of using Zinc, plus you are getting the benefit of a touch of Zinc in your Beans.....no Colds this Season! (fingers crossed). Have a great day Brenda!

Hello Carla, Enjoyed seeing today's informative video. Your flower & vegetable garden has magnificent blooms. Thanks for sharing with us your canning & freezer items, you are terrific. Through the years I had Rhubarb growing in my garden & have made Rhubarb applesauce also Rhubarb strawberry 🍓 pie 🥧 😋. Never tried making jams but have had the delicious Maine blueberry jam. I have made an enjoyable British Chutney that I truly enjoy. Appreciate you for sharing your interesting videos ☮ 🍓🌼

Carla, let me be the first to comment this morning by saying 'thank you" for another relaxing and enjoyable video. You have a beautiful garden and offered a great inspiration for viewers to consider canning fruit, vegetables, and other food items. Since I live in New York City, I only get to see nature by going through Central Park, and I am forced to pay the high prices of groceries in the local food market. You offer me a " breath of fresh air" each Sunday. Keep doing what you are doing. You are an inspiration and a gift to your viewers. God bless, Robert.

Thank you Robert. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Oh l used to can for years when the kids were little,it was a lot of work but so worth it. I was afraid of pressure cookers so l could only can tomatoes,pickles and anything that could be safely canned in a waterbath. You should try dilly green beans they are So good! They are pickled and spices.
@mynewenglandstoryАй бұрын
Yes, I used to be afraid of pressure cookers too but have used mine several times now and feel comfortable. Have a great week Fran!

I want a freezer now!!😊
@mynewenglandstoryАй бұрын
Yes! It's so nice having an extra one just for added miscellaneous items. I also have an extra refrigerator/freezer downstairs that I keep meats in (freezer) and extra drinks. It's nice to have so you are not needing to run to the Grocery Store all of the time.

Have you read “Animal Vegetable Miracle” by Barbara Kingsolver? I think you’d really like it! It’s a non-fiction/semi-memoir book about her family’s attempt to eat only local and home-grown foods for an entire year. It’s so good!!
@mynewenglandstoryАй бұрын
No I haven't. I'm not familiar with that book but I will definitely look for it. You're right, it sounds like something I would like. Thank you Juliet! Have a great week!

Wonderful video Carla!! Would you be willing to share your strawberry freezer jam recipe? I have never canned anything so maybe I could start by making that. :)
@mynewenglandstoryАй бұрын
It's definitely an easy one to start with. You will need to buy a box of Pectin (Sure-Jell) and the Recipe and Directions are in the box. You will need your berries, pectin, sugar and possibly lemon juice. Have fun!!
