Dalmatia is a fascinating region with SO much tradition and heritage, the majority of it very localised. Many events and traditions are specific to an individual village.
And many of these traditions are sadly dying out or being lost as young people prefer to be online, if they have not emigrated.
Over the years, I have come across so many unique experiences in Dalmatia, (and other parts of Croatia), and I came up with an idea to help preserve some of these traditions, as well as make them more accessible to locals and tourists alike. Meet the 'Olympics' of Traditional Dalmatian Games.
Do you know of a traditional game played in your village which we could include? We have about 35 already. Please leave info in the comments below. And if you are interested in helping to make this idea a reality and have something concrete to contribute, please contact paul@total-croatia-news.com Subject Dalmatian Games.
With thanks to Hvar TV for the excellent footage. If you want to learn a LOT more about Hvar and Dalmatia at a more local level, I cannot recommend this channel highly enough - / @hvartv

You sir are a gem! Tourist boards across Dalmatia are actually moving in the direction of utterly modernizing almost everything but in this process they fail to recognize what is the most valuable for any people and thats the old ways, habits and mentality. History deeply rooted in stone and peoples lives is just vaguely accentuated not celebrated as it deserves. Hope you don t skip balote and karte (trešeta i briškula). Love it! Fala in šjor Englez

Haha thanks. There are so many things that make Dalmatia unique and it would be a shame to lose some of them unnecessarily.

As a Dalmatian (Split metro area), I heard of balote, and that indigenous game is still common around Central Dalmatia, but I'm just now hearing of these near forgotten games coming from Hvar and I was there as a young kid many years ago. Man I'm missing out lol

Croatia is so high on my list. I have a feeling I will visit more than once. I wonder if Croatia is as amazing as Spain? It probably is, right?

Odlična ideja. Vjerujem da bi se projekt mogao sufinancirati iz EU fondova. Ako već niste, pogledajte sto nude nadležna ministarstva ❤

I wonder how hard it is for tourists to discover Indigenous and local traditions like this that are unfortunately dying out...
