Wow, Dave Martins did not realized he was such a special person. Indeed Guyana to the bone. I was a toddler when I heard the name Dave Martins and the trad winds. His lyrical togetherness had a profound effect on me. A true states man and ambassador RIP sir.

Surprising! Didn't heard of David's passing on popular Caribbean media. So, this is news for me. The sentiments here regarded him only as a Guyanese icon; Dave is also a leading Caribbean cultural icon on the level of Bryon Lee, The Merrymen, Sparrow and others. Dave's rendition was at the highest level, often mixed humor, and he brought his topics to life. As if you were present experiencing what unfolded with every verse: the vibrant Caribbean sunshine, the lush greenery, the blue skies and oceans, and creole were vivid. Such entertainment, then, was social therapy. I will share the news. Life is a stage and we are the actors? Dave's act hard to follow!

With the passing of Dave Martins, Guyana has lost one of its most cherished cultural icons. As the leader of The Trade Winds, Dave's music transcended generations, offering a unique blend of Caribbean rhythms and profound storytelling. His timeless songs like "Not A Blade of Grass" and "Is We Own" not only put Guyana on the musical map, but they also spoke to the heart of the Guyanese identity, instilling national pride and joy in all who heard them. His music had the power to bring life to any gathering, making every occasion feel like a celebration of what it means to be Guyanese. Whether played at parties, on the radio, or at national events, Dave Martins' songs continue to evoke nostalgia, laughter, and unity. His legacy will live on, as his melodies continue to inspire and uplift. Dave Martins didn't just create music-he created the soundtrack of Guyana's soul. His presence will be missed, but his songs will remain a part of the nation's heartbeat forever.

@Annette .....my sister contacted Dave on behalf of the Guyana commission based in Barbados to perform during the pandemic. This was to celebrate our rich diverse culture of the Guyanese people. Now I can relate with what Hon. Ali, he accepted this non paid venture with just a call. This shows his cablire! Mind you, other guyanese artists were contacted as well but refused since they were not being paid. We need more people with mindset like Dave! Thanks Annette for being with him in every step of the way. Condolences and stay strong in your time of bereavement. Sleep well Mr. Martin....your legend will never fade!

What he has not been given credit for is that he was a great poet.his songs was poetry in motion.he was a visionary as we all can see how fitting the song not a blade of grass is being resurected and to coincide with his passing stamps him as a legend. .
