His father Sir Seretse Khama was a giant of a leader however Ian is also his own man and has shone out of rather than being always in his fathers shadow. The world needs more clear thinking and honest leaders like Mr Khama. I hope Botswana’s future leaders will continue to follow in the same non-corrupt and transparent footsteps of father & son Khama.

I cud go party and walk home knowing I will pass them at some point. But there were some corrupt soldiers who wud beat people and screw up the system I had an altercation before but even then I feel it was slightly safer compared to now with gun shots like the ones we heard this morning

Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama was our president from 2008 to 2018 and upon him stepping down as presindent of the Republic of Botswana, I was only 19 years old. So I've grown up watching and listening to our former president speak and address our people in setswana at some Kgotla meetings. I don't understand what you are talking about

From what I have been told our former President Festus Mogae introduced Ian Khama to politics because there were internal issues like factions in the ruling party. Ian Khama came in and helped stabilize the situation. Well since then that's how he became an important figure to the people.

This is a true leader that the world so sorely needs. Just look at him, the very definition of seriousness and gravitas, conveying confidence and trustworthiness. Put him beside the politicians in the US, or anywhere nowadays, the difference is stark. This is a ray of hope for humanity - when the world over is increasingly leaning towards corruption and tyranny, what an anomaly. And in Africa, of all places! Heaven is showing us mercy. I travelled to South Africa several times for business, before it descends into current madness. I never heard anything about the remarkable achievement of Botswana. I now so regret that I didn't take the chance to visit it. I fervently wish this great country world, especially given the turmoil surrounding it. Miracle.

He ranks in the category of Lee Kwan Yew, the first President of Singapore. The story of his father brought sadness to my heart after viewing the story of his expulsion from his country. These men are the true liberators of their countries. The key quality being integrity, loyalty and the recognition that leaders see themselves as servants of their people. Being put in charge to ensure a better standard of living. One questioner asked about his party being voted in at every election since Independence. Since Independence the generations have seen no need to replace a leadership that satisfies their needs and strives to put measures in place to reduce corruption and manipulation of the system to maintain power. I was looking for the answer to: "How an underdeveloped country becomes developed?" Botswana popped up! Then I learned how it went from the 2nd poorest country in the world to one of the richest countries in Africa. I had no idea Botswana had such a great story! It cemented my idea that every poor country needs ONE TRUE LEADER who will start the journey to becoming a developed country. JUST ONE TRUE LEADER who will rise above their own interest and take transformational initiatives using their resources. Singapore is another great story, a story of LKY.

Another of your compatriots keeps calling him a dictator but dictators stay for life or a coup removes them. With my little bit of understanding of him and his father it seems to me that they have done well for Botswana. As for corruption I dont think their is one leader of any country that has not used their position to benefit it some shape or form (for me its a matter of the level of corruption they do or allow). Some of the anger towards him as expressed that I am reading seems to me to be about the fact that his mother was white. I am not African born nor raised I am an African American. China aim is to bring in its own people push corruption to make the country indebted to it and therefore take over its resouces as payment plus they bring shoddy goods and do poor work.
