I have to say, as a young gay man, who really doesn't even have an interest in military service, that this video nearly brings me to tears. I was very doubtful about Obama's support for the LGBT community at the beginning of his candidacy, but seeing him sign the repeal was amazing. He did with a smile. You can tell it was one of his prouder moments when he says "It's done!." And for a president who is not gay that continues to be an ally, that takes strength. Thank you President Obama.

Wow this is so amazing!! I can't believe it took me 5 days to get wind of this! From South Africa I wanna send a BIG congratulations to America for finally dealing with DADT the way it should have been done so long ago. I can't wait to tell the rest of my family. South Africa repealed any form of DADT in our military many years ago. I hope more countries can continue this trend soon.

It is inconceivable to uphold the ideal of honor and demand that those who uphold it be dishonest about who they are. We, as a nation, are obliged to become a beacon of tolerance to all the world. We must always look forward, we must always stand at the forefront of the ideal of freedom, and we must always demand more of ourselves than we expect for the rest of the world.

I did not realize you can rejoin the military since don't ask don't tell was repealed. That is pretty cool. But regardless Sex does not belong in the workplace, military or civilian. The worst thing about all of this is how people are using an imaginary being to justify their bigotted views. I'm straight, but I couldn't care less what sex/colour/religion/sexual preference etc. someone is if they are willing to risk their life and fight for my country. Regarding "gays on the base holding hands and kissing in public" etc. that is a stupid comment. I don't feel the need to walk down the street kissing my wife every 5 seconds. Gay men/women are no different.
@TheEriskay13 жыл бұрын
It's about time!! Thanks to President Obama, people can serve their country without the fear of having their sexuality questioned. We're all sisters and brothers no matter our color, creed, nationality, gay, hetero, bi-sexual or transgender. We are all in this together. I don't think those in the services, who are gay, are going to be standing around talking about it. They are putting their lives on the line, like everyone who serves. Get real!

Nice video. It`s awesome to see something GOOD and JUST, happening in America, now days! It never made sense to me that a person was ALLOWED to go out and DIE for Freedom yet weren`t ALLOWED to speak about who they are? What would be the point in fighting for Freedom, then??? DADT was NOT representing Freedom in America. God bless the gay people in the military. We`re one step closer in becoming the "UNITED" Sates of America, again. Just like we`re suppose to be! Thanks to ALL the soldiers! :)

@hawkermustang of course its biased, but you have to understand that policy was discriminatory. If you came out as gay, you were kicked out, but being openly straight was not against the rules. That is inherently unequal.
