President Raisi’s helicopter crashes in Iran: What we know so far

The Iranian Red Crescent has denied earlier State Media reports that they have reached the crash site of Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter.
Let's take a step and recap. Here is what we know so far. A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the foreign minister has crashed in bad weather. Rescue teams are searching and ambulances are on their way.

Iran is very mountainous, and the weather is very unpredictable, especially where the crash happened. During the summer, random hail storms even happen in the summer afternoon. People don't realize how hostile Iran's weather is, the U.S. experienced the same thing during Operation Eagle Claw. Add to the fact that due to sanctions, Iranian aircraft as not up to date with the latest safety technology, disasters like these happen, even when taking reasonable safety precautions.

As someone who lives in a mountainous region, weather changes by the hour. Most of the time it's very regular, but occasionally you get all 4 seasons in an hour. So typically it's very safe and the risk factor very low, until it's not.

The U.S. experienced the same thing during Operation Eagle Claw in a different region. Iran also does not have the latest safety equipment in their aircraft due to sanctions, and combine that with unexpected weather events, unfortunately, it's not uncommon.
