Illinois has controlled burn programs at the county level. Every state in the United States needs to have a controlled burn program in order to prevent wildfires. This magnitude of this disaster and the deaths are on the mismanagement of Newsom and Bass. Per a recent CNN article, last year Bass cut the understaffed LAFD by $17.5 million, $100's of thousands of which was reappropriated for DEI programs. This despite the fact that they have less than 1 fire fighter per 1000 citizens compared to 2 fire fighters for the same number in most other major US cities. This despite this area of Cali is in one of the most fire prone areas in the country. This despite that over 100 fire trucks sat idle during the fires because the city doesn't employ enough mechanics to keep them on the road. The fire fighters they did deploy ran out of water at the hydrants despite their currently being plenty of water available in the region which is on Newsom. $200 billion being appropriated for a high speed rail to nowhere instead of appropriately staffing and maintaining existing infrastructure. This despite almost all power lines still being above ground and often the source of these wildfires during high winds. This despite the highest taxes in the country. This wasn't the fault of the LAFD. I hope the families that lost loved ones and property start voting for more competent officials.
