It's an excellent mixer. This generation of StudioLive boards have a logical layout and sound great. Thank you for the comment!

I have an AT2020 mic connected to the 16.02 presonus board and I cannot get the mic to work. The 48v button is lit and assigned but no volume at all. What am I doing wrong?

What is the Presonus audio device just to the left of your hand at 0:39 on the 1 0f 7 (Layout and Controls) video? Thanks!

Looking for a little help here. Is there a way to configure two microphones into M/S configuration on this board? Here's what I do for my analog board: I use two microphones, one is figure 8 (side mic), the other is hypercardioid (mid mic). These two mics are placed one on top of the other, in the same vertical plane withe the figure 8 facing sideways (as per Blumlein). The cable from the figure 8 is split into two channels (home-made splitter) with the polarity inverted on one, then going into two channels on the board, one channel panned fully left, the other fully right. The hypercardioid mic goes to a third channel, panned centre. Balancing the relative levels creates the stereo image. On my new-to-me StudioLive 16.4.2, Is it possible to copy (or link) one channel to another, invert the polarity of just one and then pan each left and right? The mid mic would again be assigned it's own channel. Many thanks in advance.

I don't know the board but if you want to listen to it as L/R and not as M/S, you would have to hit a matrix before the input. Someone else would have to let you know if this has a built in Matrix.

Since I posted this I've had opportunity to explore. On this board it's not possible to duplicate the channels and then invert one as is typical for a side configuration. Excluding absolute phase**, the chief consideration is correctly matching the centre mic with the side mic. So, my fix has been to be physically split the signal into two upstream of the board, and invert one of them. These then become the side mics - an equal opposite of each other (remember how the side mic is positioned in the tracking room). The challenge with the mid mic is to determine how to align it with the side mic(s). It will be in phase with only one of the side channels *more on this following.Taking a look, and a listen to the frequency response of each microphones it becomes apparent, there is a main overlap, where the patterns become fuzzy in the lower midrange. So, having swept each of the side channels opposite (L-R with one inverted) the task now is to choose which polarity to assign the the centre mic. Empirically speaking, I do this through headphones. One polarity emphasizes spaciousness, the other focuses on the middle. *Mid-side is not quite Blumleine pair since it doesn't respond to the back field. But the point source amplitude imaging is the same. Most listeners want some time displacement as it occurs in naturally. Various dialects of ORTF can solve that though I find it very easy to just add some natural time lags with ambient orchestra and room mics. If you know what you are doing that's not cheating. Another thing to keep in mind is that dynamic mics and condenser mics are, by their nature 90 degrees out of phase with each other. Meaning it is not possible to correctly match phase if not using both side and mid mics the same. **Absolute phase is a whole other topic. Some would argue that it depends upon the listeners perspective, fair enough. I think physics show it otherwise. Our hearing is designed for self-preservation - acuteness and accurate perception of our environment. Commonly we as a species are able to perceive the difference between a push or a pull, what is before us and what is behind. This would be in addition to perceiving amplitude and phase differences between our two ears. @@TheChiInstitute

There is now simple answer to this but usually adding mild compression and a bit of EQ is common. Experiment with the Fat channel presets and learn as much as you can about production and mixing!

Can you control a DAW w/the StudioLive 16/24 i.e. the Faders control The DAW faders The Encoders for EQ....I know you can track w/it. but can you use the HUI protocol in Pro Tools via Firewire. I was told that it couldn't by a salesman could you answer this please. Very Nice Board indeed. It's seems it will become the New "Mackie Mixer" of these days. but w/a LOT More features, Value & very Logically laid out.For a DAW I went w/Pro Tools but I was Told Studio One DAW was The DEAL I should have listen. It was free if you bought a Prosonus Mixer @ the Time & $ 250 in the Box. Pro Tools $ 600 in the box
@InventiveGear11 жыл бұрын
The answer is no, you can't control a DAW from StudioLive mixers. It doesn't support HUI or MC protocols. For recording studio use these mixer are great for tracking because they have comprehensive monitor mixing. But for studio mixing they don't offer automation or a control layer for the DAW. Thanks for watching the video. It has only been up for a few minutes!
