Loved the way joe broke down the frequencies on this, always learn more than what the title implies. Love Studio One for the simplicity and education they provide.

Hey Joe, thank you very much, this series is highly appreciated! I've never given these stock EQs much attention, but your videos really encourage me to get to grips with them - they're sounding great!!

This one is for shaping your tone. 700hz is my favourite making it fat 220hz making it warm in a good way. 7.2khz and 3.2khz making a clean good balance. They choose good frequency for you to dial in.

Of course, if one really wanted to find out the frequency that the high shelf filter lives, one could run it into the spectrum analyzer and find it that way. Those two highest parameters could also be used in similar fashion as a Paultec boost and cut functionality. Where perhaps you want the top end sparkle by boosting the shelf, and tame the harshness by cutting one of the high-mid bands. Hence, why the seem to live in the same upper frequency band.

Joe, you should heat up your studio first, then make the video with the heat off. Also, maybe consider getting an oil radiator heater.

We could send you emails on all the shiny plug-ins from Pulsar, Soundtoys, Arturia, FabFilter, iZotope, Sonnox, Softube, Apogee, Eventide, and etc. One look at these plug-ins and they try to get you to buy them.

Thanks for clarifying this EQ. You showed me how easy it is because it is not as surgical as the PRO which is good to allow your ears to determine the value. You raised a great point in the video. Thanks for sharing on this. Wish you would do more like these for the other plug ins that come with Studio One. Mind you, I am new to this app and you may already have done this. If yes, I apologize and will seek to find more. Cheers!

It’s based on the Neve 73/81, so the high shelf is probably set at 12kHz. :)

Hello :) I did a simple test using white noise and measuring with a spectrum analyzer and noticed that the HF shelf knob starts to gently modeling frequencies above 1k. But the juice of it starts around 5k. Regards.

Always liked the Presonus Vintage Eq... sounds excellent, sweet, but IMHO it has 3 major deficiencies or rather missed opportunities: -should include a low cut filter with a couple of selectable frequencies, would make the low band a lot more usable and would be far more practical than jumping to the input section of Fat Channel just for that one low cut -the 1.6 kHz option should also be duplicated on the HMF band frequency options, and the 220Hz should also be duplicated in the LMF, it's silly to not be able to freely cut/boost those because they are only available on another band that might be busy doing other things -the HF shelf should offer a couple of frequency options, e.g. 10/12kHz, or 10/12/16kHz. If Neve was the model for approx reference, well, a Neve 1084 does ALL that - and for a good reason, Rupert was, as Joe said, "much smarter than me". 🤷🏼‍♂️ PS: thank you for using the term "nasal" properly, instead of saying "nasally". 👏👏👏

Very nice info. I like analog modeled vintage plug-ins like this. My Pulsar EQ and compressor were my small splurge to take the audio to the next level, they've not disappointed. They are modeled after the Manley Massive Passive and Variable Mu. And yes they were very much worth it, for what I intended. And that is definitely not surgical edits. Pretty much anything I do with these will still be very musical. Don't get me wrong, these stock plug-ins are great too. These Pulsar plug-ins were my transition into the next level. Thanks for the sacrifice to video this, now get in and get warmed up.

Why doesn’t Presonus refuse to use the names of the components these are obviously modeled after? 😃 Seriously it would be helpful as the user could look up what they’ve been used for.

Most likely copyright issues. I believe they had to change the name (or GUI) of one of the EQ models in the Fat Channel because of a copyright issue with the original manufacturer.

@@terrygray7465 perhaps but other vendors don’t seem to have the issue of at least alluding to the product they are modeling.
