Who cares about draws when you've got press conferences like these. Hilarious stuff from both the players. Love it!

Will be interesting to see if Magnus can bore Nepo into playing the riskier chess he has played for most of his career. Magnus certainly believes he can beat that Nepo easier.

-Ian, 3 draws in a row, how is it comfortable for you,are you satisfied and can we expect more hard battle after rest day -It's hard to say, yesterday I had chances, but deep analysis shows that black has no forcing moves. Anyway, I always want to win and it will be better to win 3 times than have 3 draws. We should understand that we have a close battle and we play how we can. After the rest day I should play for a black and then for a white, so I will play game after game and I want to take it step by step, don't want to look into the future

I think Chess journalists are too used to asking about strategy in post-game interviews - but they need to stop doing it here because it's not like they're going to potentially give away part of their strategy just for the journalists.

It seems that there could have been cheating, as the result was predicted 2 days before. They played both at Stockfish level. The question that is being asked now is: were their checkdatabases hacked? That would conclude cheating.
@sitting_nut
@sitting_nut 3 жыл бұрын
you didn't obviously understand the question. game was not "predicted", line was analysed to move 20 but not to end. but analyzing ruy lopez to move 20 is not unusual and could have been done by anybody especially after game 1, when it was also played. and how is playing that line without errors and without risking something unusual, unlike in other two games, "cheating"? playing that way will end in a draw.
@zanti4132
@zanti4132 3 жыл бұрын
Actually the superhigh Stockfish scores for games 1 and 3 don't surprise me much, considering the players were in a heavily analyzed Ruy Lopez line for the first 15 to 20 moves. I've gotten 98+ scores from Stockfish myself in games where I followed an established Ruy Lopez line past move 15, and my rating is only around 2000. Playing openings that have been analyzed to death not only ensures you won't make any early mistakes, it allows you to play quickly without using much mental effort, leaving you with more time and energy when the game finally leaves book.

@martinpaddle
@martinpaddle 3 жыл бұрын
@@efthymiosn3381 the games are not boring, they are just not making any substantial mistakes. Alireza's tricky style seen so far would not work on these, so he would have to adapt and we'd see something similar (maybe with Caro-Kann and Giuoco Piano instead of Ruy Lopez)
