Press Formed Bath Sink : Part 1-as a basis for traditional hand work

This video is the first in a series of 9 detailing the hybrid process of forming an 18 inch outside diameter Artisan Styled bath sink.
This basic sink blank is press formed under 60 tons per square inch of pressure and then hand altered by inverting the bowl on foam forms to size & style the blank using traditional wheel throwing techniques.
When glaze fired to cone 10 - 2360 ˚F - this vitreous porcelain sink will measure 16 inch outside diameter.

@patrickbarter Sink forms pressed @ 60 tons per square inch produce a clay product that is much denser than traditionally formed clay forms. This increased density dramatically reduces drying distortion and fired warping which significantly reduces the overall percentage of product loss. While the process is cost and labor extensive to set up the long term production benefits are enormous.

Die material (shown in my video) is porous resin developed by a German company and marketed in the US by Ram Products Inc. You cannot buy the material and make your own dies but must have Ram Products make your die set. Sink die shown in this video is the only resin die I use because I prefer to use Ceramical to make my own die sets in my own mold shop. The resin die is costly but does have a much longer press life than traditional gypsum based materials like USG Ceramical.
