Jeffrey should have passed his spins when he got 2nd place. He got lucky with that extra 3,000, but he should've passed, Pat needed one Whammy, and it burned him!

What's very interesting is that that might not have even been the fatal Whammy for him - the killer might actually have been his second one that just took the Denver trip. Here's why: His final total here was $10,780. Add Denver's $1720 to that and it'd put him at $12,500 even, just 550 less than Pat - so, change the second Whammy to almost anything else, and it's enough to win.

What if Lex chose to lose a whammy for the home player spin? I mean that would've been a dumb choice anyway, but I'm sure the home player would still get $500. Or maybe still the $2,000. Like I said, would've been a terrible choice, UNLESS maybe she had 3 Whammies already.

Jeffrey would have won if he had passed his earned spins after he took all of his passed spins

Probably. Getting up to five figures I can understand from wanting to get just a little bit more, but yeah once he hit that level he should have passed and forced Pat to run the gauntlet.

Huh.. what would they do if the contestant hits $2000 or lose 1 whammy on the Home Player Spin, and elects to lose a whammy?

Hence why they pulled it for the third Home Player sweepstakes.

@@michaelj.kerkau1625 Good to know. I also used to wonder if 2 players would ever tie on the penultimate spin, then the last spin would be $2000 or lose a whammy. Would the player be a nice guy/gal and elect to lose a whammy, ensuring they both return AND win their totals?
@sirharry133 жыл бұрын
A little off topic, but there was an instance in 1986 where a contestant trailed by exactly $2500 on the last spin and hit the Move-1-Space in #14. Their choices were: $2500 in #13 or $500+one spin in #15. That contestant elected to take $500+one spin and go for the outright win (now trailing by $2,000). They then hit $750 (with no spin) and lost...In your scenario above, I'm taking the $2000!

@@sirharry13 Boy, no kidding! A tie ensures you BOTH come back, and unlike a few other instances, you aren't tied with zero and have money/prizes to take home!

While I (and others) have said that in the situation of $2,000 or lose a whammy on the HPS the home player should get $2,000, I'm thinking that might have became an S&P (Standards and Practices) issue...Consider: The rules distinctly said "Whatever Mary wins, you'll win" Obviously, the home player can't use a "lost" whammy and you only get $500 if you hit the actual whammy, so what do you do then?

Pat was the second of three people to end up winning the game after getting three whammies in round one...If Pat would have whammied on his first spin in round two he would have joined the dubious "four whammies in a row" club (and the first to hit four whammies in only four spins, like Mona later in 1985 which was also a Home Player Sweepstakes episode and Lorraine in early 1986) I wonder if what happened with Lex on the Home Player Spin in this episode was the reason $2000 or Lose a Whammy was removed from the board for the Home Player Sweepstakes in October and November 1985....RE: If a contestant hit $2000/LOW, I agree that the Home player should be rewarded $2000, even if the contestant elected to lose a whammy.

Jeffery was a little greedy...He should have passed to Pat as soon as he got into second place...But then again, Pat could have pulled a Michael (from episode 643, who won over $33,000 with three first round whammies and a combined 10 passed spins from his opponents in round two).

Man was that dumb. You are exactly right. There are so many instances where players just don't get how to play the game. Jeffery's chances of not winning if he'd passed then were very slim. 6 spins and 3 whammies already for Pat. Pat himself was dumb for getting a 2nd whammy (which eventually led to a 3rd) in the first round. If I was playing, I would pass as soon as I got 1 whammy in round 1. There is no reward for the risk, with very small prize amounts in round 1.
@sirharry137 жыл бұрын
In Pat's defense, his third whammy in round 1 came due to a passed spin from Jeffery. I would say 90% of the contestants who got three whammies in round one got the third whammy in round one due to a spin passed to them by an opponent. Most will pass any remaining spins in round one after hitting the second whammy. Everyone has their own strategy, but I wouldn't pass after only one whammy.
@michaelj.kerkau16253 жыл бұрын
I agree - passing that quickly is almost asking to lose from playing way too conservatively.

Probably let the home viewer have the $2K would be the thing to do in the Lose a Whammy square hitting that happened here. The third home contest didn't have Lose a Whammy on the round two board, and this may have contributed to the reason why. Probably should have kept Lose a Whammy on the board for the third home contest since it helped a few players keep in the game over the two years it was on the board, and let the home player have the $2K if the player picked to Lose a Whammy.Double your $$ never appeared on the board during a home contest IIRC. Peter also said on the last spin that Jeffrey needed something with an additional spin to stay in the game when Jeffrey was less than $5K away, which he usually doesn't say when the difference is less then $5K. Of course the prizes on the board at that point were all worth less than $5K.

It was Medium Prize Season once the African Safari was hit - Jeffery wouldn't have even had a prayer without it, but what was left was a majority of prizes being 2000-something, with Dallas and the Home Robot being less than that. (Though I'm not sure at this typing of London.) So yes, Jeffery absolutely needed the additional spin to stay in the game.
@sirharry133 жыл бұрын
The highest price on London was $4,227 and that was through December 1984. Ever since that point, London's price steadily dropped Re: giving the home player $2,000 even if the contestant lost a whammy. At the very least, they could have swapped out a slide and put $2,000/LOW back in after the Home player spin was played.
