That’s the first time I’ve ever seen isatoic anhydride in any pyro formulation. It does not make sense to me that it might function like BHT as a stabilizer. But id love to be able to store whistle rockets longer. Where did you get this formulation from? I like the idea of methyl salicylate.

It acts as a free radical scavenger in a unique way, especially in the presence of organic esters, which, specifically in this case, is exploited. It has something to do with the position of the nitrogen in its secondary amine functional region. In materials such as the tert-butylated aromatics BHA, BHT, and TBHQ, the tert-butyl groups do all the magic for ya, but they are slightly less efficient overall. Not by enough to matter, of course. So, using stuff like BHT is totally cool if it makes more sense financially. ✅️

Would the ratio have to change is Red Iron Oxide was used in place of yellow to account for the extra O?
@ShortFuseMan
@ShortFuseMan 2 ай бұрын
This propellant can be made with red iron oxide ❲ferric oxide❳ in place of yellow iron oxide ❲ferric hydroxide/oxyhydroxide❳ in an interchangeable manner, though the performance will be reduced by about 1Ƽ% if using sodium salicylate ❲the original formula❳, or 20% if using sodium benzoate ❲the alternative formulation❳. This is due to the catalyzing affinity that sodium-based fuels possess for metal hydroxide-based catalysts. If you were accounting for the oxygen correspondence, you would use 2.Ƽ% red iron oxide to fulfill the catalytic principle behavior in these contexts. However, this does not really need to be done, as the change in the final specific impulse values is negligible. 👍🏻👍🏻

Technical question my friend , can ferric hydroxide be replaced with other catalyst or other type of metal hydroxide. Seems that ferric hydroxide is on the hard to find side
@ShortFuseMan
@ShortFuseMan 5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, my friend, ferric hydroxide can’t be replaced or supplemented with any other easily obtained metallic hydroxides. So, let me help point you in the right direction. There are 2 registered providers of yellow iron oxide that carry the most pure form of it for use as a catalyzing additive. These companies are Eisen-Golden Laboratories™® and Loudwolf™® LLC. You can either order directly from their respective websites or their eBay℠ stores. Between brown iron oxide and yellow iron oxide, there are no other reasonably available catalysts besides these that grant higher power to sodium salicylate-based whistling propellant compositions. On top of this, the sound of the whistle during the delay stages is a beautiful hybrid soundbite between the smooth burn sound typically granted by copper oxychloride and the aggressive rasp noise often given with red iron oxide. Usually, only 1% of iron-derived catalysts are used in whistle compositions. However, when employing yellow iron oxide ❲ferric hydroxide❳, 2% should be used to provide the most prominent specific impulse values, henceforth why Whistle of Wintergreen uses this quantityː 2%. Anyway, thank you for reaching out to me! Remember, I am always here if you ever need my help with anything. Much love. 🤟☺️

Hi my friend , just a question please , I ordered the yellow iron oxide Fe(oH)3 the one from loud wolf through Ebay, I just received it , and amazingly these dummies sent me yellow iron oxide from Eisen-golden labs. But nomenclature is "" yellow iron (lll) oxide. Fe2O3 H2O Seems to be a different ferric oxide compared with Fe(oH)3. Any expertise? Thank you like always!!

@@Pyroflorida Thankfully, that form of yellow iron oxide from Eisen-Golden Laboratories™® is just as usable as the variant that Loudwolf™® sells. Both perform just equally well as whistle catalysts. You are good to go. 🔥✅️

I can’t quite understand isatoic anhydride.
@ShortFuseMan
@ShortFuseMan 4 ай бұрын
Put simply, at the end of the day, isatoic anhydride functions as an optional, special-purpose stabilizer for long-term storage, and also acts as a mildly catalyzing fuel additive, slightly improving the overall propellant formulation’s specific impulse capabilities.

I keep having CATO issues with older motors that use red gum as a phlegmatizer. how does this compare in terms of shelf stability in less than ideal environments (like an outdoor magazine)?
@ShortFuseMan
@ShortFuseMan 6 ай бұрын
To give you the best answer, can you tell me a little about your particular red gum whistle variation as well as how you are sealing up and preparing your motors prior to storing the rockets in your magazine?

@@ShortFuseMan I was trying a 70/30 na benz with +4 red gum (i think) and +1 red iron oxide. perc is unmilled but passed through a 325 mesh screen several times. na benz is milled for a few hours. simple fuel obviously. acetone granulated. the motors are pressed between 7000 and 8500 and all work well. using unwaxed tubes at the time, sealed with cellophane tape over the nozzle. they work for a few weeks, and then start failing. i have some that are 4 months old with a 100% fail rate so far. a few stored in a climate controlled area without headers. a few have headers and were stored in an outdoor mag. I know there is a lot wrong with that so to start I'm waxing my tubes now, and planning to use k benz. I'm really not picking, i just want a howl similar to red iron Benz rockets with good shelf life. I also get odd chuffing sounds with low thrust when they first light. not sure how to fix that. there is a video on my channel of a 1lb that shows the problem to a lower degree. thanks for the help man!

They may look like the legendary and delicious curry rice 🍛, but they instead smell strongly of potently pungent fresh peppermint candies 🍬. Interesting contrast, I must say. When working with whistle of wintergreen, the majestically revivifying and slightly intoxicating aroma of methyl salicylate warmly envelopes you, as you proceed to press together a rocket that smells just as good as it looks and performs.

So I see that the Methyl Salicylate is the phlegmetizer, but does it also burn as a fuel in unison with the Na Sali?
@ShortFuseMan
@ShortFuseMan 5 ай бұрын
Methyl salicylate in this composition acts as a unique type of plegmatizer that forges with the sodium salicylate ❲or whatever other fuel you may choose to use❳, splicing into it on a very close molecular level, and is able to contribute additional audio and power to the whistle propellant mixture, which is not typical of the usual plegmatizing agents usually used in these particular contextual scenarios to stabilize whistle mixes. Methyl salicylate, therefore, is an extremely exceptional plegmatizer for these purposes, as the oxidizer ❲in this case, just potassium perchlorate❳ treats it very similarly to the main whistle fuel when it comes to combusting it. This is because of the molecular structure of methyl salicylate, as said already. It is an aromatic compound based on the benzene ring, just like all the whistle fuels, meaning it has highly similar combustion characteristics to the main whistle fuels, i.e. whistling loudly when burned in the presence of a strong oxidizing agent and especially so when also in close proximity to a catalyzing additive. The only difference between the main whistle fuels and compounds like methyl sali is the fact that it is a low molecular-weight organic ester as opposed to an ionic salt, making it an oily liquid at standard temperatures and pressures. Alternatively, methyl/ethyl/propyl/butyl benzoate or methyl/ethyl/propyl/butyl phthalate all can also be used as viable alternatives or replacements. Diethylmethylbenzamide, benzyl benzoate, benzyl alcohol or its esters, methyl anthranilate, acetophenone, benzaldehyde, or anisole are all additional examples of similarly employable compounds with parallel compatability. If you would possibly want to step things up to the top notch and get extra outgoing, using aniline or nitrobenzene would be the protocol for ultra-extreme performance, yielding superbly impressive ISP in the final propellant, due to the significantly catalytic nature of aromatic amino and nitro groups in energetic situations.
The DEA hates this oil...so I made it
