Very nice, as usual. I also have permeable hardscape in my yard. It prevents the huge puddles formed from the rain; and allows the water to soak into the soil rather than into the street and eventually the ocean. However, mine has sand rather than gravel. Mind you, I also have something like a French drain under the pavers. One drawback of such a surface is the debris that doesn’t wash away with the flow of the water. Oh well. Southern California needs the water to go back into the earth rather than the ocean. I applaud your customers.

Thanks Rebecca, it's a good question. I think I prefer sand, the grit is heavier to push along, and the rinsing is a bit of a pain 😍

Ah, you brought us something new and completely different, Nick! Grit instead of sand! I really like that idea. Seems much cleaner and less messy overall. In a big rain, especially with pooling, the grit would probably stay in place better than sand, especially on a drive that isn't level and has a slope. Interesting that they had a mix. You did a fantastic job of cleaning and making it all look brand new and perfect, as you do. You show consistently reliable excellence in your work on every job. I think my favorite part is where you take us through the job, showing us the things you take into account and plan for before even considering beginning the actual work. I love watching you think it through to get your plan set to deliver the best job, properly done, that you can. You never disappoint. Have a beautiful week, Nick! 🩵💧🩵

Well, I really wasn't expecting to be shown a whole new topic. The underlying skill of laying this is impressive. But...all the things we've been learning to do....where do you push the water, how do you clean up muck, how many times do you rinse, the type of material brushed in and where you get it (looked also like less volume), even the problem with residual dust... are now done differently on this type. Wow. You were doing such a meticulous job on the hypo that when you said you had (small) some missed areas, I was surprised. Not surprised though if it was a result of not being able to see through all the dirty water or just some extra tenacious spots for some reason. Reading comments, I'm not convinced all people understood this was a different system and not just a choice of sand or granite grit.

Nick, nice to see something very different. Quite the process to go through. Personally I would think you're more likely to track the gravel bits all over, including inside the house versus the sand which settles in the pavers. Is my thought valid or an overactive imagination?
@alexisgrunden1556 Жыл бұрын
If it's not brushed and settled into the brickwork properly, maybe; I imagine that sand will cling more, but the grit might be more likely to get caught in the treads of your shoes. Feels like they both have their points.
@Lucinda_Jackson Жыл бұрын
Living in a place where it's all sand and no soil, I can tell you sand is fine and sticks to everything - I'm constantly sweeping up sand. I used to live in a place with 110 inches of snow every year and I used a lot of grit on my walkways and steps. It mostly just fell off and didn't really get tracked in because it's heavier. But in my case, neither was settling between pavers so probably doesn't even apply! 😂
@PrestigeExternalCleaning Жыл бұрын
Hey LuAnn, many thanks. I think you're right, even though I had leaf blown the driveway to remove as much of the grit on top of the blocks as possible, I was still hearing it crunching as I was walking about, this seems to always happen when I clean this type of block paving. So a very valid thought indeed ❤️.

Nice job! It looked like quite the hard work. The water never puddled so much as usual driveways. Luckily it wasn as bad as playgrounds but it seemed hard to rinse off the chemicals. When you walked around the finished driveway I could hear the sound of stones from your shoes, I almost sounded like walking on gravel. Did you get stones into your shoe soles or is that the normal sound of walking on such a driveway? It wasn't good to see how deep the stones went between the blocks since there was hardly any color difference. Every time you kick your bags to get them open you remind me of anime assassins who have blades even in their shoe soles 😂 You are the first person I see opening the bags like that.

I did this exact job yesterday and I could tell the customer wasn't happy. Grit doesn't give that eye catching finish like sand does so I could tell that weighed a bit on his mind.
@PrestigeExternalCleaning2 ай бұрын
@@ReverseSweepExteriorCleaning You need to remind your customer that re-gritting or re-sanding has nothing to do with aesthetics. Each application has a purpose, permeable paving HAS to have grit and CANNOT be sanded or it ruins the drainage of the driveway. Standard block paving needs to be re-sanded to keep the blocks stable and in place. The sand may look pretty for a few months until it gets dirty again. But how it looks is completely irrelevant and has absolutely nothing to do with why it’s applied.
@ReverseSweepExteriorCleaning2 ай бұрын
@PrestigeExternalCleaning yep, this was explained and thanks for the reassurance. For some people aesthetics is everything for the outlook of their overall home instead of practicality. Hadn't received a callback as of yet so hopefully that'll be okay. Thanks again and thanks for all that you do for the industry.

@PrestigeExternalCleaning Жыл бұрын
Polymeric sand is 3-4 times more expensive than kiln dried sand, takes longer to apply, and doesn't live up to the hype, so it's not very popular in the UK. No I never apply sealer. I personally feel it's for the most part, a waste of time and not good value for money. This type of paving can't be sealed anyway, as it would prevent it from draining properly.
