That’s one of the main misconceptions people have about mining. You do not create Bitcoin by transmuting energy into Bitcoin. That’s not how it works because, otherwise, if we would link money to energy, then if we would get way, way, way better at producing energy, we would automatically create more money...." .Saylor says Bitcoin is digital energy. cool coversation, cool guest! thank you Preston! one think I don't understand: why is flare-mining good for environment? It's good for oil company, it's good for bitcoin, i get it. But environment?

I'm not an expert but I believe you're correct. It's only good for the gas company and Bitcoin but it's not good for the environment. The better solution from an environmental standpoint would be to reduce as much of the flaring in the first place. With flaring, you get pollution and wasted energy. Bitcoin mining only helps with the wasted energy aspect.

Exactly. As gas burns, carbon and heat is already emitted. The only think you can do is to use the released energy and not to waste it. Btw fossil energy is not so evil as stated, about that has Saifedean recently a top conversation.

I agree that PoW has accomplished many things previously thought impossible but what if PoS is attempting to solve for something else, for example incentives? Asking a maxi for their perspectives on PoS seems disingenuous. Why not moderate a conve with someone like Charles Hoskinson or Ethan Buchman?

Although< I have interests in global economics I don't watch the news anymore... I have enough FUD lol. Thanks for this news and offering your insight on how to navigate during unfortunate times/events like this. You're right about keeping level headed when investing so that's why I think it's important to limit the amount of FUD we consume. I don't watch the media but the news that you present has enough to know issues going on without riding the emotional rollercoaster if I were to watch the news everyday.
