Pretoria learners suspended for alleged racism

The Gauteng Education Department says it is monitoring the situation at Pretoria Girls High closely. Twelve learners have been suspended over allegations of racism.The protest is believed to have been triggered by alleged racial connotations, micro-aggressions and complaints about black pupils which were ventilated through a WhatsApp group.
The department has also expressed concern at the high rate of incomplete online applications for Grade 1 and 8.

Bullying is a very vague concept. What does bullying have to do with racism? Bullying isn't race based. Bullying has always been in schools and it happens to children of every background.

@@katlegoloveslife No- but it's a different thing and should be dealt with on its own merits and not under the banner of racism which is a very serious and dangerous accusation. Teenage girls can be extremely vicious to each other and I am sure that it's worse since social media. It's not necessarily racism though. It might just be bullying. I wouldn't put any label on it until the facts are at hand and a proper investigation has been done. Then it must be dealt with for what it is either way. Until such time as the facts are clear the speculation is being portrayed in the media as fact. That is extremely dangerous, damaging and inflammatory. Remember the incident with the grade one teacher a few years ago which turned out to be a false accusation? It destroyed her life and career and everyone walked away as if nothing happened. They jumped to conclusions about what happened and it was used by politicians for their own ends to incite hatred in SA. Not OK. Investigate. Get the facts and then deal with it on it's own merits.

Racism is a very serious issue in our country. We as the public need to start seeing the evidence of such so that we know the claims are true and that people aren't being falsely accused of racism. Are there screenshots of the group chat? Where is concrete evidence?
