Really excellent tutorial! The best on KZbin! Great job! Missed: ABS marker on driver's side (rear) trailer - Applied brake test is when you listen for leaks out the window. Gaskets on doors - hose clamps under the hood. Every state has their own rules. For the newbies: Slack adjusters and push rods on the air chambers are checked with the wheels chocked and the system pressurized (brakes off). A ball joint remover or screwdriver are best, but you can use your hands to pull on the slack adjusters and make sure there is no more than 1" on the steer wheels, and 1 to 1 1/2" on the rear spring brakes. I can't imagine who would give this a thumbs down! TWO thumbs up! Kudos to Sean for taking the time to post this video when others will charge you $125 for a PTI refresher course!

I'm starting my second week at the Truck Driver Institute in Whiteland, IN and am about to need to be able to confidently cover all of these points. Make sure you check make sure your annual vehicle inspection label is up to date and you check and make your truck has insurance and registration.

Excellemt inspection trucking friendz!! Just a quick input, for anyone watching this OUTSIDE the state of Tennessee, remember that these road tests differ depending on location. For example, if you begin opening truck hood in New York, the examiner will walk away, with remarks such as, " you need to go back for additional training. " As for the previous gentleman posting the 2 and 3 psi static check... that's for a straight truck brother, not a combination vehicle, which is 3 and 4 psi. -EXCELLENT VIDEO!

Only thing I saw that was wrong was you said steer tires can not be recaps and that’s not true unless your driving a bus. It is generally well known as a really bad idea to have recaps as steer tires but it’s not illegal according to the fmcsr.

the book says "no more than 2 psi/min for static brake, and no more than 3 psi/min for applied brake"

sucableadi On a single vehicle that is correct but when you add the trailer, as in the video, it is a combination. In a combination vehicle you add a second to both air test. Single truck- 2psi/3psi Truck and Trailer comination- 3psi/4psi

sirknightcape According to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, the minimum tread depth for a steer tire is 4/32 of an inch on every major tread groove. If one spot on one groove is less than 4/32, then a driver will be issued a citation. These same rules apply to drive and trailer tires, but the minimum tread depth is 2/32 of an inch in every major groove.
