I've watched your videos many times over, because it gladdens my heart to look at all the beautiful books. In this one, I especially love the way your "assistant" keeps the dust from the books with her tail.

Agent Cee Thanks! 💕 (Beautiful books make me happy too 😀 As does my “assistant” - at least when she’s not knocking the piles of books off the table... 😂)

The pop-up books I covet the most. My preschooler would surely tear it apart though. Thank you for this wonderful video!

Books Galore And More Yes, the pop-up books are spectacular but quite fragile - even I have to be careful with them 😬

I am a grown man why do I find these children books so interesting 😂
@BeautifulBooks5 жыл бұрын
I blame the incredible artists and designers working on them - so much of the 'golden age' artwork is also in children's books - Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, Kay Nielsen, etc. How can we resist?

I just saw all those middle grade books on display at waterstones. They were gorgeous in person. Especially the train one. Such a lovely texture on the naked paperback. Thees was a gorgeous book on dinosaurs with a slipcase that I think you would have loved
@BeautifulBooks6 жыл бұрын
um t They are lovely, aren’t they? I am a sucker for those hidden covers, I think the extra effort also reflects how much the publishers loved the book. (And of course, now I have to trawl through the Waterstones website to see if I can identify this dinosaur book 😂)

Wendy Fraser Thanks for taking the time to comment 💕 Yes, our cat is lovely, but she really makes videoing difficult! An entire house at her disposal, but the only place she wants to sit is right in front of my camera, and she takes great joy in nudging any unsupervised book piles onto the floor 😂

Is the travelling cat chronicle a good book? I loved the description but I think it's very short... Is it worth giving a shot?🤓
@BeautifulBooks5 жыл бұрын
I liked it. It's told from the point of view of a cat, but it's really about relationships - friendships, love of animals, kindness. It is a short book (more of a novella really), but poignant.

Love these videos!!! How do you collect and research your books? Do you work in a bookstore?
@BeautifulBooks5 жыл бұрын
Beacon Hill Books Thanks so much! Sadly, I don’t work in a bookstore, although that’s probably lucky - when I was much younger I worked opposite a used book store and a disturbingly large chunk of my pay packet disappeared every day on the way home 😂 I’ve been collecting a long time, so I try to share background information I have that not everyone has access to. I’ve also lived in a bunch of different countries, so I am familiar with a variety of international publishers, and living in Australia means i have to import a lot anyway (our local publishing industry doesn’t do many nice editions - mainly just produces a lot of very poor quality trade paperbacks), so it’s worth my time to track down the nicest editions. I actually buy a lot of my books second hand, and I often do vintage collections on my channel, because it’s usually much more affordable (except for that Folio Society fairy book collection - I was lucky enough to get those each year as they came out for my birthday because they are crazy expensive now) - and I think it’s quite fun to ‘hunt’ down books to create your own collection 😀
@BeaconHillBooks5 жыл бұрын
I love the hunt as well although have just begun collecting and just drool over yours! I wish I could help you with the postage rates! Just saw you have a patreon page - will check it out! Would love to understand your process and what websites you use etc to decide which vintage books to buy! I have found Errol Cain because of you and cannot stop swooning over his illustrations! Anyways thank you so much for the time and energy you put into these videos and of course for sharing your collection (and kitty! :) !!!
@BeautifulBooks5 жыл бұрын
Beacon Hill Books Oh that’s great - and thanks for taking the time to comment - it’s so nice to ‘talk’ to fellow book lovers 😀 Errol Le Cain’s illustrations are just incredible, aren’t they? My trick for building vintage collections is mainly patience - sometimes the last few books you want just take forever to find at a decent price. (I also learned about book conservation online so I can work magic to resurrect ex-library books, ha!) But discovering the things you love is the real fun of course! I have soooo many esoteric collections I can’t wait to share in the hope they spark joy in someone else’s heart too - just need to find the time to video them, ahhhh... Also, I love to hear about other people’s collections so please do share your own special book loves if you ever have the inclination 💕💕💕
