Pretty Lights started as a duo of Derek Vincent Smith and Michael Menert, but Michael had to take care of personal matters early on so Pretty Lights became Derek's solo venture for a long while. He would sprinkle in live band shows here and there until he released his album A Color Map of the Sun, which after the release of that he often toured with a live band. Then he went on hiatus for like, 7 years, and now he's back with a new and improved crew!
