We get the gist of it I guess but it's just that, we get an ambiguous answer, not a detailed one. The liars even say that they tortured Lucas, Mona and the others, but we never get the full story. And in the books it goes into more detail but again doesn't explain the whole story or most of it. They do explain in the books at least how the liars were relentless in torturing Mona and how she was their punching bag. Not that they took turns hitting her, but they used her as a toy. Whenever she came around, they would bully her and ruin her day more than just calling her names but tearing down her whole character and I can understand how constantly being tortured and harassed like that would push someone over the edge. I don't expect the writers to go into every scenario where the liars bullied the people but some examples would be nice.
