"Pretty much everything" - you didn't even include a star in the Big Dipper Also: Antares ~ 900 million km Betelgeuse ~ 1 billion km VY Canis Majoris - 2 billion km UY Scuti - unknown TON 618 - 240 billion km and Phoenix A (RBS 2043) is smaller than TON 618
@JosephDWmPelobello Жыл бұрын
@@14xpm14 Lol, I just wanted to point out that despite their prominence no one seems to put Ursa Major stars in size comparisons save the really expansive ones (don't worry you're OK). Also, Polaris is in Ursa Minor, not Ursa Major. However, 1 AU (mean Sun-Earth distance) is 149,600,000 km. Twice of that is nearly 300 million km (diameter of Wezen). Betelgeuse is generally believed to be somewhere between 600-800 solar radii in radius (diameter 0.84 to 1.1 billion km). Therefore Betelgeuse has a diameter between 5.6 to 7.4 AU. UY Scuti is NOT 3 billion kilometers. Torres _et al_ give it a radius of 1,708 solar radii or a diameter of 2.38 billion km; however, the MDFCv10 angular diameter and data from the Gaia Data Release 3 parallax give a radius of 1,200 solar radii (diameter 1.67 billion km). It is believed that no star can be as large as Saturn's orbit, as it contravenes evolutionary theory. VY Canis Majoris has a well-established diameter of two billion kilometers; previous estimates of 2.5-3 billion kilometers are outdated. Alcolea _et al_ 2013 says that the star's radius is "the highest among well-characterized stars in our galaxy" TON 618's diameter comes from here arxiv.org/abs/1903.08830 With a mass of 40.7 billion solar masses, it would have a diameter of 240 billion km. And no, Phoenix A is not larger. It only has a mass of 20 billion solar masses (source: arxiv.org/abs/1208.2962). Please be very careful when looking at the Wikipedia superlative astronomy articles (List of largest X) etc. as they can be subject to people who lack expertise on the topic.

According to Wikipedia, the most accurate measurements of IC 1101 and Arp 18 (Tadpole Galaxy) put them at around 550,000 light years (553,200 and 557,000 respectively.) Also, a black hole cannot engulf a galaxy, and black holes will never be bigger than the largest galaxies, but the quasar can outshine the galaxy itself. Phoenix A* and TON 618 are 2 major examples of this. All black holes are in galaxies btw, so a black hole can never engulf one until time ends probably
