“When we first sang together five years ago, as the echo of applause was still ringing behind the stage curtains, they asked my opinion of the young soprano with whom I had just performed. In front of the television cameras, I responded: “I really wanted to sing with her, and today it happened.” Since then, Nadine Sierra and I have trodden the boards of many theaters and performed many duets, as her international career continues to flourish and reap success. She is one of the most talented singers working today.” - Andrea Bocelli

I was there. This is the last number before the intermission. this recording sounds so much better than the live concert. I think somebody balanced their volumes and remastered the sound quality. Yende’s not audible quite a lot of middle register( her tops rings fantastically) , while nadine sometimes trying too hard. all those flaws disappeared in this video. the highlight of the night is the American song selections in the second half, with jazz, broadway and Hollywood songs, very refreshing.
@ER1CwC Жыл бұрын
I don’t think that the engineers purposefully fiddled around or anything to achieve the effects you describe: Yende and Sierra just have voices that record well. (The opposite among current singers is Sondra Radvanovsky, whose voice records very poorly.) Professional recordings lie.

Whoever thought it was a good idea for Pretty Yende to sing the part of Adalgisa with a weak middle register... Nadine has a tendency to overact in concert, which depending on what she sings, can be acceptable, but I can't picture her as the cold-blooded druidic priestress Norma, at best she could be an Adalgisa in terms of realistic acting, but not the right role for her voice I guess.

Praised for her vocal beauty, seamless technique, and abundant musicality, Nadine Sierra is being hailed as one of the most promising, young talents in opera today. She was named the Richard Tucker Award Winner in 2017 and was awarded the 2018 Beverly Sills Artist Award by the Metropolitan Opera. Having made a string of successful debuts at the Met, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra national de Paris, and Staatsoper Berlin, she has become a fixture at many of the top houses around the world. In 2018, Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music labels released her debut album, There’s a Place for Us, followed by a second album, Made For Opera, in 2022.

Whatever the 'musical' or 'performing practices' may be, I alway feel like the singers in these showpieces should just go ahead and hold the note until the orchestra hits the final chord. Neither of these two are suitable for these roles and it certainly has been remastered here. Silly. It sounds like two cats gently meowing the piece. Or a school recital in a small setting. Weird.
@alejandrotm4 ай бұрын
Probably this is why neither has sung the entire role on stage or recorded it, they just took this fragment as part of their show and sang it their way. Somehow, some catchy fragments from famous operas end up having a life of their own in concerts and recitals, being sung by people whose voices could never sing the full role, but can still manage the piece as an isolated item.

Have you got ears? Or just got eyes….. even then, you should realise that this has nothing to do with opera. No technique, no colors. False notes from Sierra ….. OH MY GOD.
