I've gone through many shifts in my life. I am 65 almost 66 (March 3) I wore 70s hippie style in the 70s, The bright colors and styles in the 80s, all black in the early 90s, and now vintage 50s and early 60s style now. It's fun to experiment with various clothing. I experimented with hairstyles during each decade. Now my hair is long down my back to my waist. I do not have grey hair, it is auburn like my paternal grandmother. My dad didn't go grey and neither did my grandmother. So opposite your family.

I would love you to make a series of videos that each showcase an outfit from a particular region - showing your research, the characteristic details, the ‘do’s and don’t s’ and then how these inform your fabric/item choices and how you put a whole outfit together representing that region (which of the pieces were made, vintage, or thrifted etc). And all the accessories of course! As an English speaker you don’t have access to your sources to I always appreciate the rich information included in n your videos. You are also super lucky you can still talk to people alive now who wore these traditional clothes. (I have been researching Welsh pre-industrialisation peasant clothing - reliable information and extant fabric fragments are very scarce)

Doing the same thing myself. My therapist likened it being inside a rubber band in a certain shape and you want to make it another, it takes awhile to push and pull to get it right. Growing pains, takes time. Also, I so do that with my cats too. One of them gave up years ago on my nonsense. lol

(Most is döbbenetesen néz ki, bár nekem most egy kicsit ijesztő.)

I'm barely 20 and already went through two massive style shifts. You could probably call it a part of growing up, but in my case it had somewhat obvious external reasons. And how "I don't like my body" lead to a mix of folk and 90s is a mystery until today. Also, and this might be a controversial opinion, I wouldn't say this particular folk dress is fake in any way. People have always jumped to new fabrics and remade clothes, and folk dresses aren't like historical fashion, they still evolve and get worn, so it's as authentic as any other newly sewn dress. That title imo goes to the cheap fake copies with no love going into them.

A reassuring comment about style changes in your 30s: After a very bad car accident in my 30s (I lost part of my left lung but got to keep my right lung, punctured both, broke my right collarbone, sternum, many ribs, and had an “open” right foot fracture which was very ugly) I was in the hospital for weeks and recovered at home. I lost a lot of weight and my style changed dramatically. I guess I dressed and accessorized “younger”. I was told it was to be expected and not to worry about it, so I didn’t. I recovered completely and looked fabulous. 20 years later everything is still good! Don’t worry about style changes, you look great!

You’re back! I’m so excited to see your way of making a folk costume. I’ve done several ”fake” folk costumes and only now started to make my first proper one. But I don’t really think that I can wear it often, after weaving the fabrics and all, it’s way too precious! For everyday use, one needs clothes that don’t take months to make.

It's nice to see you again. As for changing one's fashion preferences, I don't think there is anything wrong with having fun with one's wardrobe, so long as one does it responsibly (i.e. not buying a whole new fast fashion wardrobe every month and throwing all of the old clothes into the trash). So yeah, if crop tops are what make you happy right now, go for it.

I'm so happy to see that you are able to recreate these folk costumes. I'm Polish and living in America, and I have such a hard time finding information about how folk costumes looked back then. Sure there are resources on the internet, but I still feel like something is missing. I remember my mother talking about how there was a period of time where Polish people looked down on traditional wear and called it "wiocha" (I don't know the english word to describe it, the translation I found is not it 😖), and in a very derogatory way, as if they were ashamed of it. My mother and I have been making folk costumes for my dance group for many years now just from fabric, but I would love to try my hand at thrifting a folk costume!

I went from leather jacket and tight jeans in my teens to ... uuh, whatever didn't smell too bad in university (don't judge me, I was also working on a horse farm while doing my degree)... to "office casual: cowboy boot edition" in my 20s and 30s till I lost that job, now my "style" has been whatever's comfiest in the house (usually PJ pants or yoga pants), stuffed under cargo pants when I have to run off and fix broken things at work, and I'd copied a really comfy short sleeved tunic shirt and also a really comfy sweatshirt a few times. But since the plague, I started getting more into historical sewing so now my "being comfy around the house" clothing includes a couple flannel house dresses I made in medieval rectangle and gores style, another one in linen, and a couple more versions of the sweatshirt and tunic, a super warm plaid wool skirt and a house coat made of that same wool plaid, and I wear all these things out of the house on occasion. Not sure if my style has changed or continue to have none but I want to actually wear comfy stuff I've made. Also made a Kefta based on Sewstine's pattern and turned it into a full winter coat, it's just a bit stiff around the collar when I sit in the car :)

Love your videos and love all the new things you're trying out in your personal style! It's totally normal to want to switch it up and it's also kind of scary. You're allowed to change! You're allowed to try different things. What's the permanent state of the self, am I right? I've had a goth phase, punk phase, several vintage phases in different eras, a Princess Leia phase (literally wore only white for a full year in middle school), a hippie phase.....I could definitely go on. Right not I'm trying to figure out if I want to be an eighteenth century pirate or a Greek god/dess. Your style is awesome and I love that you're committed to thrifting your clothes (but also not here to judge if you want to purchase a new garment.) Also as someone who has executive dysfunction and all those fun struggles that come with ADHD, let me tell you, it's okay to be not okay. I'm pretty good at taking care of people and animals who depend on me, but have a really hard time remembering what I need to do to take care of myself. Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing this stuff with the interwebs.

It is only just now at 31, I've come close to a cohesive look. I think I have pieces that work better together as an aesthetic or character.. I've went from ping-ponging between T-Swift Phase to western goth outlaw to 70s rock roadie in college. Then cyberpunk athletic wear mixed with 2000s emo, I wasn't allowed to be as a kid,in my later 20s. During Covid, I liked cottagecore & hobbit like clothes. I'm learning to sew to those items plus regency and later 18th century inspired items. I struggled with my style bc of pelvic pain & weight changes from undiagnosed pcos. I always loved very feminine old timey clothes but worried about fit and not being "feminine enough". I think I can be historically accurate or adequate as well as integrating colors or patterns from previous looks.

Welcome back! It's perfectly normal to switch between styles or let our style evolve over time - the only people I know who always dress the same are those who couldn't give a rat's ass about fashion, they just wanna be warm. I went through grunge, the Y2K craze (it happened just as I became a college student and those narrow, knee-length, ridiculously flowy skirts worn over boot cut jeans haunt me to this day), then I became a vintage preppy secretary, then a Goth...and nowadays I look more or less like a cottage witch. I'm 38 and as far as I'm concerned, this adventure with personal style is only beginning.

I'm 60+ now and am shifting back to hand sewn (with machine woven fabrics) folkloric outfits... Thanks for giving me the info on the cloudy weave wool skirt! I have a woolen one in autumnal colors sitting in a tote waiting to be used and I have 3 widths of black velvet ribbon tucked away in another tote with some black satin... hmmm, I'm going to see if I can get an english language version of that book you are using as a reference.

It's normal to shift over your life. Some people shift slowly so it's nearly undetectable. Some freeze until they absolutely have to change out of boredom, frustration or just stagnation. Others like me skip and jump steadily, changing for change’s sake often driving others mad with their seemingly unprompted adventures.

Girlfriend you are not alone. When I was little I only wanted too wear frilly skirts and dresses. I hit my teens then I was they jeans an T-shirt girl. In my early 20's I started wearing dresses again. I was looking for that cottage core look with out knowing that was what I was after. By the time I was in my late 20's early 30's I was ricking the stay at home mom look sweat pants and stain t-shirts. Eventually I found a mom's workout group then I was all about athletic wear. Now I'm on my early 40's and I'm wearing long skirts all the time and stuck between wanting that History bounding look and then cottage core look, but hardly ever leaving the homestead so its just what ever is most comfortable to moving around in. I just need to pull out the new sewing machine I got myself for Christmas and make that corset make those petticoats and rock those long skirts with that apron is made myself on New year's eve. Shifts, transitions, and explorations in style and taste as we move through life is normal. Life isn't static, and neither are we. Change is the one thing we can always count on. Just have fun with it.

Nice to see the Shouty Shepard again! There's a really cool video on YT:. Living together in the Ottoman Empire filmed in 1910. The 1st scene is the village weaver in Masadonia. I loved seeing all the folk costumes of the different people of the Empire.

YAY! I missed you! Yep, shifty shift. I am Neo-Edwardian. I wear the long skirts without the corsets or petticoats, and I wear 100% modern shirts, up to, and including t-shirts. AND I wear any high heel I darn well please under these skirts. The skirts, however, are made from vintage and antique patterns. Modern fabrics with ZIPPERS -- but old patterns. So, yes, I went from -- well, the 1980s (where NOT being like everyone else was HIGHLY DISCOURAGED) to the 1880s, and the 1940s, and the 1920s, and the 1380s. Wear your clothes as you wish. Your hair and make-up, too. And trust that you are not alone in this. I take pretty things from every era I can reach. LOVE YOU!! Love your content! AF!!

I used to shift the mindset of what I wanted to wear 10 times a day and I mean in what era of time what style of clothes everything

I am so glad you have found a place to be happy! Please don't (feel) stressed about wanting an entirely different style (life, Clothing/fashion, or any philosophy or way of being). It is human nature. If you quiz folks on in, as in the live chat, many will say they have done the same, especially in their late twenties to early thirties. And yes, I have observed that it happens in later decades too. Even your fellow KZbinrs showcase &/or imply this. Rachel Macksey (... uh spelling?!), Goodnight Moon & Emmymade are the only ones I can think of right now, but, I am fairly sure there are others. Imo, you're clever, cheerful and creative; at least, in your videos. My guess is that most of us subscribers will join you on your journey, for as long as you are interested in this venue.

It's an old thrift find, from at least 15 years ago, and originally it was some German/Austrian brand (I've lost the tag years ago)
