Wait - These aren't 251 Chord Progressions! 🤔That's why these are sooo AMAZINGLY DOPE! 💥KC, these are perfect "substitutions" for the 251 Major and 251 minor. I really love the 2nd version, because I'm tired of playing the same ole 736 (251 minor) and the boring 514 (251 Major in Ab)! KC You Are Brilliant!!! 🔥

The first chord is a 3 chord in the key of F; which sings like a F major chord - Crazy how it’s still a 2 in the key of Eb. KC is super clever! Genius thought process without being complex. That would’ve taken at least another 20 minutes to explain! #GenuisMove

Could you explain why musically substituting the 2 chord with these sus chords works?
@musicandsportspro83302 жыл бұрын
I saw in the comment section that he intentionally kept the video 4 minutes. But theoretically, the first chord is a b5 which is the same as a 3 chord in the key of F. which technically is the 2 in Eb… Super genius thought process by KC! 🧐🤯🔥
@bogdanl98482 жыл бұрын
@@musicandsportspro8330 So it should only work as long as 1/3 in F is suspended because it can technically still act as a 2 minor in the key of Eb, correct?
@prettysimplemusic2 жыл бұрын
Yes- Both of you guys are correct… yes, it is simply a variant of the 2 chord (playing within the key of F, which is the “2” of the 251 in Eb… 🔥💚

Respectfully this video is named incorrectly... It is a 2-5-1 progression but you need to mention it is a 2-5-1 w/ a tritone sub otherwise people will be confused. (As someone who does jazz this took a moment to figure out from your delivery.. too much glossing over). So, when you substitute the 5 have you can to go a half step down from the 2 to a flat 2 to the 1. The reason for those wondering is because of the quality of the 5 chord.. So you can substitute a Dom 5 for the tritone. i.e If you have a 2-5-1 in Cmaj that would make Dmin7, g dom7 C maj 7. But you can also do Dmin 7, C# Dom 7, then C maj. The reason is because the 3rd and the 7th of both the C#dom 7 and G dom 7 are the same.. And C# and G are tritones. Hopefully this provides some clarity to what he is doing..

Hi Nyakz - Awesome & thanks for the thorough breakdown - my average watch time report shows 2 minutes 13 seconds! I pray people have the patience to watch this video from beginning to end - 3:40 clearly states that these are substitutions, not intended to be a traditional 251 pattern. Side note, it's great to meet you - I don't think I've seen you here in the comments before. Welcome to Pretty "Simple" Music - My #1 goal is to simplify your musical journey. We do full theory breakdowns - but this is impossible with a 4 minute video (especially when the average watch time is barely 2 minutes...lol). Here's our" 251" 42 Minute Long Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5jUoJiBZtFopac I intentionally made this video super short - #pretty #simple #music 💚

Thanks Kelly! My average view time for this video is 2 minute 13 seconds…lol They obviously didn’t get to the 3:40 mark which clearly states hese are “substitutions” nor have they seen any of my full-length 5 hour long video series that breaks down the theory… A 4-minute video doesn’t allow exhaustive rhetoric, nor the opportunity to deep dive in theory.

Melody is king. In a lot of your song examples the melody is not under your hands.
@musicandsportspro83302 жыл бұрын
All of his examples he either sings the melody or he’s playing on top of the Free PlayAlong Tracks. It’s called “accompanying” the melody, not playing without the melody
@ClaudioPallone2 жыл бұрын
@@musicandsportspro8330 it doesn't matter he is singing. The melody always have to be under your hand. I am not saying playing only the melody. The chord changes make no sense of the melody is not part of the chord.
@prettysimplemusic2 жыл бұрын
@@ClaudioPallone if you’re a new inexperienced pianist, yes the melody should ALWAYS be played, but advanced jazz/gospel musicians are skillful to “accompany” a vocalist without having to include the melody line. For basic music, yes… for advanced Reharmonizing - you must have advanced ear training and understanding of how dissonance can be used skillfully. There’s a reason why this video is currently trending with advanced musicians.
@ClaudioPallone2 жыл бұрын
@@prettysimplemusic I am not saying the melody has to be played all the time. But sometimes the choice of chords and inversions sound really out of place. This has nothing to do with advanced players. It just doesn't sound right.

@@ClaudioPallone Who determines what sounds right? Should you trust your ears as a guide for your success as a musician? YES! I have a video series called “Play Like YOU” because I support musicians who find their own musical voice. ☀️💚 Side note, Tritones were forbidden in early Christian music because of the dark sounding intervals… Now they’re used in most modern music in every genre.
