You would expect musicians to be tense and nervous when approaching such a monument to music. Instead no, they are relaxed, happy, but totally focused. At the same time, they are also totally respectful of the intentions of the original band. Great performance.

There’s a Steely Dan tribute band in my area that’s also good & faithful to the music. They also seem relaxed & confident when doing their note-perfect renditions. I’ve come to realize it’s because they’re superb musicians & singers, they put in the work getting the tunes down correctly and rehearsing relentlessly when they began...and they’ve been doing it at least 10+ years now, maybe more. I’m a Steely Dan fan since the first album, subscribed to the Dandom Digest when the internet came along & now enjoy all these SD and related videos on KZbin. Comments under these videos can be interesting, just as debating-analyzing-obsessing over Steely Dan recordings & concerts in SD fan forums has been interesting for the last 25 years. An observation is that as that we Danfans can sometimes give Donald & Walter a run for their money as far as pickiness (myself included:-) ‘Reelin In The Years’ does a wonderful job on this one, Rick on drums a big bonus. Get well wishes to Jessie Gress, if still needed. RIP Walter Becker.

This is a pretty good cover, but it makes you realize how awesome the original was, Fagan's vocals with that edge, Becker's smooth guitar work, the tightness of the band. Damn hard to even come close to the original.

@@andrewgraham1399 I understand your point (and I'm well aware of Fagans high standards for recording since he's a musician's musician -case in point -KZbin video where he explains how he created the foundation for Peg (AJA). I am making a simple point though -this band is not playing with enough "gusto" to do justice to the cut. Further -there is another band on YT that does Steely Dan covers and they do a great job of it.

You made my year with this song. One of the most addictive instrumental grooves ever. My wife and I first heard it live on April 21, 1974 when Steely Dan headlined at the U. of Toledo. It was so warm that Sunday evening that all the arena windows were open, and as we waited in line outside we heard them play this entire song during their sound check. When they played it again 2 hours later to an audience, Fagen left his piano during the instrumental outro and stood center-stage conducting the band like a symphony maestro. Your performance here is the best I've heard, and I'm not sure there's a close second when you factor in that unforgettable trumpet solo. One correction, Jim Gordon was the studio drummer on the "Pretzel Logic" album.
