Preventing Artifacts in AFM Imaging

Hi Sir, I would like to know is there any way to measure the amplitude of a periodic sinusoidal AFM image? Is it just through the line profile method or is there any other method? Also, does the roughness value give us any sort of information on the amplitudes of the pattern? Many Thanks
