Ah the memories of shacking up with the flavor of the weekend at her house and waking up in the middle of the night to the Prevue Guide. I always loved those days and miss them a lot. Life was simpler back then. I don’t know why I left those days.

Man, Prevue Guide was the TV Guide in our house when we had standard cable & then our hellacious satellite dish! Gotta admit, I always enjoyed watching the free for all WWF shows on Prevue! Anyway, wicked awesome nostalgic video, Steve!

3:20 This recording features an alternate version of the 1988 original Prevue Guide theme composed by James & Aster. Notice how there is a drum transition at the start of the song while in the other version, there is none. The title of the song remains unknown, and I'm very interested in finding both versions in their original highest quality.

Great quality footage!

Considering it was recorded from analog cable onto SLP VHS, then captured as an AVI, then burned to DVD video, and then ripped from DVD video to M4V and uploaded to KZbin.... I guess it doesn't look too bad

It definitely looks great for Prevue footage.

The same thing happens on my cable company. I always wonder why the grid scrolls fast on the satellite video and a little slow on the fixed version? And on the fixed version, you can also see the satellite video sometimes on the far left or right on the screen.
@MadameSomnambule5 ай бұрын
On the bright side, the channel scroll seemed to be working fine. Same can't be said about some errors this software had back in the day with the guide barely working at all lol

2:12 Prevue Weather on satellite? Which city/state?
@jamesbooty7 жыл бұрын
Good question. I thought it was odd that the feed being covered up by the local cable company would have weather on it, but there it is.
@alexflores98937 жыл бұрын
Another mysterious fact: On C-band satellite, Prevue was on satellite Satcom F4 (now AMC 10) and channel/transponder 8 (NTSC/Free-to-air). In late 1999, TV Guide Networks (now CBS Corporation and Lionsgate Entertainment) changed its satellite platform from satellite Satcom F4 (now AMC 10) and channel/transponder 8 to (QPSK/Digicipher 2/removed C-band listings).* Thanks for responding me, Steve Zissou, I mean Steve Sisson. :P * I've recently made a mistake. I edited my comment.
@jamesbooty7 жыл бұрын
HAHA!!! Where did the Prevue satellite feed originate? That's probably the source of the weather info.

I think its from Tulsa, Oklahoma provided live by Prevue Networks. Pop's (formerly Prevue Guide/Channel, TV Guide Channel/Network, TVGN) satellite backhaul feed: www.lyngsat.com/Galaxy-15.html

Is the first part of the video from a cable company? It looks like a satellite system since it shows satellite names along with the channels.
@jamesbooty6 жыл бұрын
Kris Rehberg This was recorded from a cable company, but the video displayed at the beginning is from a satellite feed because the local software which overlays the cable company's lineup had crashed. You can see the Amiga booting at 4:09, and the channel is back to normal operation at 5:18.
@und42874 жыл бұрын
The satellite feed had transponder numbers as a courtesy for "big dish" users.
