@@CasepbX Because movies are about people. And they are about people because being people, we naturally connect and emphasize with other people. A movie monster is always a glorified plot device, and a source of literary conflict for the protagonist(s) to overcome and grow from. It's not a coincidence that the most revered horrors and thrillers are those with the tightest scripts and strongest performances by the lead actors. Making a movie ABOUT the monster is always a popular trend with fanboys. But what they don't get is that such a movie would be flat and empty, and turn off everyone else, because with no actual meat to the story and that human connection - the big cgi monster man becomes boring after the first 10 minutes of him fucking shit up.

I think predator in 2018 film... punching the metal desk when he was frustrated showed how powerful they are...left a massive dent in a solid steel desk, and they did it well so it looked pretty real lol. But I agree, I think this predator was my favorite out of all of them...he was fast af compared to the later more tech advanced predators, and his martial arts skill just seemed better and more fluid. The predator series was never about being able to "fight" the predator. Humans can't win 1 on 1 in a fair fight. It has always been about using our smarts to outwit brute strength and tech beyond what we had. It made perfect sense she could win given what was shown that she knew and how observant of her surroundings and what was done she was.

@@sydgerald I agree that the Predator coming out with a win and returning to Yautja Prime with a successful hunt is extremely overdue. However, simply blowing off the climax of the film as “oh this is just woke there’s no way a female can take out a predator”, dismisses literally everything that the Predator faced off against. The Predator was gradually getting fucked up as the film progressed so much so that it had to rely on essentially a carpet bomb to survive displaying the severity of the situation it was in. The Predator repeatedly fucked around and found out ultimately culminating in an inexperienced hunter not learning from their mistakes and underestimating it’s prey. While the final bolt shot was convoluted, I could still believe that after all the damage it ate and the frustration it was in, it would’ve been fucked up enough to not properly identify it’s target even more so land it.

yeah no.... sorry, but no. I just finished watching this movie and it is absolutely stupid. spoilers ahead. Don't get me wrong, it looks kinda good but for a gory movie it really doesn't show much of it, lots of cuts from the violence so that's a bit of a let down. The bigger issue is the plot, it just doesn't make any fucking sense. The predator in this movie must be the dumbest living being in the universe, he is not even a hunter in this movie, he is more like a stupid brawler looking for fights, letting every animal he fights wound him, by the end of the movie he is so wounded by bullets, spears, arrows and such that it's a miracle he can even move. In the end, he gets killed by his own gear, as if he doesn't know those bolts will fly to where the laser is pointed at. all he had to do was literally duck or maybe i dunno, not use laser guided bolts for a target that is 2 feet away, his aim can't be that bad. Also it's really pressing my suspension of disbelief when a 50kg girl goes toe to toe with the fucking predator, a huge tall heavy monster that can bench press a fucking grizzly bear. Yeah she's quick, lets say that matters but he had her in his hand, that's game over right there. When humans go toe to toe against predators, it doesn't end well for them, no matter who they are, period. This movie looks fine, but it's stupid as shit, definitely not 8\10, 5\10 at best.

its well established in the wolf and rabbit scene. You can see him analyzing both animals and then categorize them into predator and prey. He then goes after the wolf, the other preadator to have a challenge and prove himslef to bet better. When he first meets her, its with the bear fight, so he again catagorizes what he sees and she is the prey and the bear the predator. From then on, she is just prey and therefore he is not interested in her. He does not (yet) understand that sometimes the prey can become the predator.

I love this movie to death so I might be a bit biased in my analysis. My 2 cents on it is that the predator actually knows his weapons too well. By that I mean there is a range that the projectile will travel before being affect by the targeting laser. In the fight with Taabe, he still had to dodge all 3 projectiles because they fly past him, and only then start to turn. Possibly the Predator judges the range he can get away with, and also in the finale he thinks that the mask is nowhere close to affect it.

The technology being “primitive” for the predator isn’t because they arn’t at the same technology as in the original predator or predators, it’s because this predator is young and inexperienced so he starts with the weakest weapons to prove themselves also hence the primitive looking helmet because they have to earn the stronger equipment. As great as this movie is compared to the string of trash we've gotten after the original predator, no matter how smart this girl is, she still wouldn't have been able to beat a predator, much less, use his own weapons against him. It's reminiscent of The Predator 2018 where a tiny kid is able to wear a giant predator helmet and literally kills another kid and blows up his house. The Predator in this movie is definitely a Young Blood. As much as I want to see a Predator win I can understand why this one was killed. Seemed as if the young blood was learning in a way. If it was an Elder Predator that bear would of tooken a straight shot to the head easily and wouldn't be much of a fight. Prey didn't disappoint me. There was gore, good action, beautiful scenery, and you see the Predator more often in this film. I hate when you barley see the Predator like in AVPR. This movie is what the series needed. The Predator 2018 film was a joke and should of never had been made. It's nice to see the Predator fight on the same terms because everyone can easliy be slaughtered if it had all its tech and gadgets like you normally see. Especialy during that time period. In a Predator movie I should feel like I am being hunted, have me on the edge of my seat, seriousness, and fear as in a Predator is not to be rekoned with.

The difference between strong women in the 80s movies and how Hollywood tries to portray “strong women” today is that the women in the 80s film(how they were written) weren’t trying to prove themselves to be “just as good as men”. And their character motivations didn’t revolve around being better then men or having them recognize you. Today’s female protagonists in movies and shows do almost everything with the motivation and showing up the guys. They are constantly comparing themselves. Women used to be confident in movies not arrogant. When men see that it portrays weakness and reliance on others. Ripley didn’t give a shit what the men thought about her and the men respected her and she didn’t put them down just because they were men. Mutual respect. Mutual respect is an alien concept to writers these days.

@@theempireofjudah9315 well honestly I disagree that JLC in Halloween is a strong character, she is a wonderful performance but she really doesn’t do much in terms of characterization, but that’s besides the point. I think this Naru has far more scenes of her developing her skills than most action protagonists, and it seemed to me that her real skill was her observational skills and wit, she wasn’t any more talented of a fighter than the rest of the tribe. Besides, if a bunch of vets with enough fire power to destroy a small army couldn’t go toe to toe with a predator in the 80’s a 140 lb 5 and some change foot tall underfed native girl in the 1700’s certainly couldn’t, and she didn’t. She defeated him with wits and trickery, which is what Arnold did in the first one. I agree that her agility and backflips and all were over the top but no more than any other action hero. I suspect that if this story DID star a young man instead of a young woman no one would be complaining about that sort of thing…either way I wholeheartedly disagree that she could be replaced with a young man, her whole motivation was doing what her culture said she couldn’t, and she had to do it alone for some time BECAUSE her culture didn’t support her, I don’t think most of those beats could have transferred over without some significant rewriting.

Just finished watching this movie on Disney+ in Australia. I’m now in two minds. Firstly, this movie was amazing. Easily, hands down, the 2nd best Predator movie after the original. The story, cinematography, pacing, music and acting were all top notch. However, I just can’t understand why this movie never got a theatrical release. Surely the test screenings were through the roof and Fox/Disney must have known they had something special on their hands. Even just a limited release would have at least given us die hard Predator franchise fans a chance to experience a magnificent film set in the Predator universe in a cinema setting that we have been lacking and asking for (and deserving of!?) in decades. Here’s hoping the team behind this instalment get an opportunity to once again produce and release another instalment in line with Prey, just this time with a big screen release. Given what Disney have delivered us on late, this at least gives me some hope that there are still some people in the organisation who understand what Predator has to offer both us the fans and them the company behind the IP.

I loved Prey; however, I have just two questions about it. 1. How does this Predator not know his bolts fired from his wrist are guided by his helmet? He fires them at the dog in the camp and go into a nearby tree because his helmet is on the ground pointed at the tree. Also, at the end when he points his arm at her to fire, does he not recall from the camp earlier that his bolts won’t hit her without his helmet? This seems very odd to me that a Predator doesn’t fully understand exactly how it’s weapons/tools work. 2. It’s face and mandible placement is VASTLY different than other Predators. Unless it’s a completely different species of Yautja, it’s hard to believe that the natural evolution of them would change so drastically in less than 300 years.

That's actually my big problem with the movie: Naru scores ten after ten with her uninformed guesses about Predator customs and technology, she seems like a scientist who has been observing Predators for years, not since last Monday. To me, the movie turns from a great Predator flick into just a Predator sequel at exactly half the runtime, when she meets up with the trappers. Also, why the hell didn't the Predator just go after them directly? And the CGI of its face was absolutely atrocious. Predators haven't really been scary since Predator 2.

1. I agree completely, and found it to be a wild suspension of belief that she pieces together how any of his technology worked when people today would struggle to grasp it conceptually, let alone while everyone they care about is being ripped to pieces all around them. Her ability to “connect the dots” is on par with someone that has never seen a game of chess showing up to a tournament and beating grandmaster-level players; highly unlikely. 2. I chalk it up to racial variety. The unfortunate aspect of this is just a lack of introducing the idea earlier into the franchise, but it’s fine for me.

@@drawmelikeafrenchgirl I’m going to watch it again but the Comanche dub version. They did use real Native American actors and had Comanche experts as advisors. Even the director himself- I think- is Native American if not part Comanche himself. So I believe they went through pains to make it as accurate a portrayal as they could, right down to the way they held their bows and arrows. Oh and if you ever see anyone complain about them being on foot in woodland forests instead of riding horses in the southwestern plains of “Comancheria”, those people are ignorant to the history and range of the Comanche because there were Comanche all the way north to Wyoming in the early 1700’s. The film even addresses this in at least 2 lines of dialogue that I caught: one where Taabe says to himself, “I need to get a horse,” and at the end when Naru tells her people, “There’s danger here. We need to move to land that we can more easily defend.”

Tbh I think the whole “gender roles” thing was handled well in this movie. Hunting a hunter is not a fun job, it’s dangerous with a high death toll and I think the scene with her mom after the Lion hunt trying to at least justify a logic to it more than “it’s a man’s job.” Especially with the ending. People not believing a main character just make it more of an underdog story and makes the character more interesting and sympathetic than if they were just given everything, imo.
