I killed January in my game and just looked at the logs and I thought that nullwave was the best option, there were a lot of holes in what January was saying

Also, you spent 15-20 hours going through the game? I spent over 45 hours with the game and even so i felt that i hadn't explored all of the areas as well as i could have. I'm not saying that you did something wrong by finishing this game in half the time, as everybody should be free to do as they please, no, i'm more impressed by the design of the game that gives players options for playing this game in such different ways and to spend as much time with it as they feel comfortable with.

My theory is simple: Morgan succeeded in saving Talos 1. He used the Nullwave device. However, I think that the amount of Neuromods left a Typhon residue in your grey matter. The Nullwave killed him. The amount of Coral on Talos during the events of the game would surely attract more larger Typhon. It did. Earth was invaded because of the sudden dissapearance of the Coral. Like an SOS Beacon. Using Morgan's body, and Typhon DNA, along with January and December's memory drives, they completely rebuilt Morgan as the Human Typhon hybrid. Humanity is being safeguarded on Talos for now. That's what I think.

I wouldn't characterise the endings as you did. In my view destroying the research wouldn't protect earth from them but just put them in more risk because there isn't any information on how to fight or neutralise them. I did basically all of the side-quests that helped people and to blow them up along with the station containing the only information on how to protect earth in the future just because a robot said you wanted to do this earlier is the most reckless and selfish of the endings. But all in all, i like the way there can be discussion on what these endings mean and that they're not black and white (paragon/renegade) decision. I liked MEA more than ME1-3 for the same reason.

With some of the side stories that happen in this game i MUST disagree with your statements on morally good and bad endings. For example (spoils) there is a small story where as a child writes to their mother with a picture depicting what we can assume is a typhon she sees in her dreams and as we know from i believe an audio log you can find in the game children are NOT aloud to be on talos1. now this can be said not to be evidence that earth is already infected BUT there are more stories such as the side missions where you find out neromods are being stolen and taken to earth as contraband. ALSO there is a ship wanting to return form earthside to talos one durring the initial outbreak that is ALREADY infected with typhon. TLDR: earth is already infected right choice is to not kill everyone on board because they are the only ones who know how to deal with typhon (nulwave tech.)

Or maybe the real Morgan succeeded in stopping the Typhon (with one of the two options from the game) but they got to Earth some other way!?
@janosd4nuke3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Even non-typhon-ability neuromods are based on typhon materials. And those are already in commercial use back on Earth when we experience the outbreak. When the Typhon break out as living creatures is likely a matter of critical mass, and pushing the technology merely accelerated that onboard the station.
@adambloomfield48614 жыл бұрын
I only have one comment to make on this and it’s based around the playstyle of typhon abilities via neuromods. IF you are a typhon-Human hybrid as shown at the end and your playstyle was typhon based then why do the typhon in the game attack you? Don’t you think if you have they’re abilities you are more akin to their species rather than that of a human being? Also notice how a couple of the panels on the monitors are glitching? They could be the result of a buggy install just like the one the first time you take your trials in the test rooms. This is but one persons theory. I sure hope arkane make another prey. It was a 9/10 for me.

Despite some major pet peeves, I enjoyed the game overall. Not the biggest fan of endings like this, but I admit I liked the twist nonetheless. I blew up talos but escaped on a pod, and then joined humanity.

It's hard to tell how much of the Morgan we see in the simulation is the true Morgan, especially with just how unreliable each version of Morgan is within the simulation. The game makes it clear they are an entirely unreliable source of information and that there is no single version of Morgan that is more complete and consistent than the others. Personality drift hits Morgan hard, but it arguably makes Morgan less of a self-serving jackass. The first Morgan made October and was entirely on Alex's and original Morgan's side, an operator we never see (only hear introduced in the audio log from Alex's safe room) who was likely destroyed by January or possibly another operator (maybe even one we never met or heard about). Then a later version of Morgan creates December, who is just about getting the now seriously personality-drifted and scared Morgan as far away from Talos-I and the Typhon as possible, and doesn't seem to do much to control or influence Morgan, its only goal is getting them to safety. Finally we meet January, the newest (most likely) and most destructive Morgan operator. It's operating on a plan that the original Morgan once mocked and said "won't solve anything" before having his first Typhon neuromod removed and his memory reset: blowing up the station and every Typhon-"infected" person on it. We're slowly given pieces to the puzzle that show Morgan isn't reliable and that Alex isn't actually the bastard he's made out to be by January's Morgan, at least not entirely. Alex fully believes in the original Morgan's plan to use the amped-up nullwave device on the coral, and if the simulation's result is to be believed, it is a very good plan for stopping the Typhon (although considering the actual state of the world in the ending, who knows if it really would work). January is manipulative, but not because it's evil. It's like the Typhon, it has a purpose and lacks the ability to act outside of that purpose. The Typhon kill and dominate anything they come across and cannot empathize with others. January does not want people to be harmed, because its version of Morgan was trying to undo the original's mistakes, but it also will not allow any result that allows the Typhon or Typhon-based technology to exist. It will even lock down the computer and prevent current Morgan (i.e. - you, the player) from choosing to use the Nullwave device unless you destroy it. But the truth is, you shouldn't be following any Morgan's advice. Not religiously. You should make each decision based on your own perspective... and not just because you aren't actually Morgan and the point of the simulation is to gauge the Typhon's ability to empathize with the assistance of Neuromod technology. If you pretend that ending doesn't exist for a moment, and accept the simulation the way Alex and the personality-based operators intended you to, you are supposed to learn from the mistakes and biases of the Morgans who've had their personalities changed over time from Neuromod abuse and decide for yourself what you think is best. I like that. I think that's what makes Prey such a good game, even better than Dishonored in my opinion (which is just black/white; kill or don't kill; chaos or low-chaos). There is no "right" answer, necessarily. You can feasibly kill off many people and survive in the ending because horrible or not, you might have justifiable reasons for it or at least the "good outweighs the bad" in their minds. It's not about making a perfect person, it's about making a Typhon more human, and that's basically what happens if you play the game like a normal person would. Not saying we don't all go for the bad ending for achievements or fun or whatever, but there's a better chance than not that players feel mildly guilty for being a monster in the game and will choose empathetic responses. ------ My personal opinion on what ending is best is probably to use the nullwave device, just as the original Morgan intended, but unlike the original Morgan, do not kill people for personal gain. The "original" Morgan, October's Morgan, had no problem cutting off his (just gonna go with male Morgan for several reasons including my own bias of choosing him every time) empathy and, honestly, before his Neuromod addition he was barely better than a Typhon. Maybe he was empathetic of Ilyushin and that's why he protected her from Alex by hiding her secret. Maybe he just wanted to get in her pants. I don't know. I do know, though, that he mercilessly killed a man with a family because he was way more interested in his own research than he was in the life of another person. That was what caused him to try to find a way to preserve Talos-I and his research with the modified Nullwave device. The "second" Morgan, December's Morgan, just wanted to escape. Ultimately a coward, but I don't blame him for that. Self-preservation is a normal human response to fear. He still intended to get the authorities involved once he got back to Earth, so he wasn't just burying his head in the sand like the first, but that may be a guilt response more than noble intent. The "third" Morgan, January's Morgan, wanted to blow up Talos-I and destroy October Morgan's obsession. He blames Alex for everything, though, and believes Alex is the reason for the Typhon breaking containment, for Talos-I not being destroyed, for it all getting as bad as it was, but truthfully, Alex was just following his original sibling's plan, because he trusted Morgan and believed in his prototype Nullwave device. He wasn't arrogant, though maybe a bit cowardly (he leaves Morgan in the simulation lab all alone, practically to die, as the Typhon are all over while he sits in his safe room), but he does come off, through his actions, as selfish. Maybe in a way he is, but it's not his own ego he's protecting, it's Morgan's. He thinks if he can delay Morgan long enough to get proof of his original plan by digging through the station's files, that Morgan will join with him again and help him deploy the device. It's possible he trusted Morgan could survive on his own all along, but even so, it's a huge risk and reflects poorly on his character. Especially if simulation Alex is at all accurate and won't actually let you destroy the station in the end, though that may be an intentional change to force the Typhon to choose between killing Alex or killing January and elicit another test of empathy. I think there's plenty to take from all three Morgan Yus, even December's. Maybe getting out and surviving is the smartest thing to do. The game clearly doesn't think so, as you get a game over if you choose to use the escape pod before detonating the station, but again, that's because you're in a simulation being tested for empathy and moral fiber. I think the most important thing to do in that situation is to ensure that someone, *anyone,* can stop the threat in the end. So even running away can be a solution, though it hardly makes you a hero. January's Morgan is perhaps the most misguided, though, and the one who causes you the most trouble. Their fear of the Typhon is so strong they think any research using it should be destroyed... yet the Nullwave device works efficiently in the simulation and eradicates a monumental threat. Assuming it's an accurate simulation of what would happen with the device, January's Morgan would literally blow up the only known way to defeat the Apex. That's beyond stupid.

I think the good ending was the one where you wouldn't kill anybody. Remember this is a simulation to test human compassion. The no one gets left behind mentality. As you pointed out, this option leads to the higher "rational threat" to earth, so it must be the good one from the actual timeframe view, since that's what the real human has done.
@Sheeshening7 жыл бұрын
If he had chosen to destroy the station and kill the others, he would have made an arbitrary decision, based on an compassion test point. Therefore it wouldn't have made any sense to test the alien for it. It could only win. You know what i mean?
@Lucifronz Жыл бұрын
As far as the game goes and it being a simulation, yes. The best ending is saving and helping everyone to the best of your ability. The game also questions you if you use a lot of Typhon neuromods, so perhaps on a technical level this would be a negative choice to make. If we look at it exclusively as a test and not as a game with different outcomes, then you should: 1. Save everyone aboard the station (and get them off the station via shuttle and mind-wiped Dahl), perhaps not including the monster who killed Abby (as Danielle Sho appreciates you going after him, but you don't need to kill him personally; although if you choose to, you can murder him by dropping him from a great height to not get it counted against you; story-wise, though, you let him kill himself with the recycler by falling into his trap and letting him escape the first time). He may be insane, but he's a murderer and Danielle-operator considers dealing with him a good thing. It shows a sense of justice and empathy, basically. 2. Complete each task, no matter how meaningless. Even getting the neural scan of the musician for Dr. Igwe. It shows empathy even when the outcome doesn't matter to anyone but the person asking, as well as a sense of bravery, because this is a mostly pointless task and is only something someone brave would do to help someone. 3. Either ending. Though I think the nullwave emitter ending gets *some* questioning from the group, I'm not sure if it's strong enough to matter. Destroying the station might be the more preferred option from the group since it shows an aversion to Typhon corruption.

It depends. Have you played System Shock, Bioshock, Dishonored and/or Deus Ex (the latest 2)? If you enjoy that kind of game play and storytelling, chances are you'll like Prey. This isn't to say Prey is better or worse than any of those titles, or play is exactly the same as any of them, but I think there's a lot of commonality. I liked all those games, with the exception of System Shock, and I liked Prey.

Just finished the game after 62 hrs of play, literally doing everything. I killed everyone on Talos 1 (turn them into typhon and kill 2nd time with the wrench) and planned on giving Ilushin the EP101 key to get to earth while I blow up the station. Ilushin has no neuromod installed so I wanted to let her go as she was not typhon-infested. That was a no choice. Feel cheated by the lack of effect on ending. I could not care less about the typhon-human hybrid because I thought I was still alive as Morgan Yu (a kick-ass human-typhon hybrid). Also the whole game felt pretty empty with lack of enemies and boss fights. It felt like a demo with cool concepts and great attention to details like every in game clocks actually showing the accurate time.

Really not sure if I will like this game. Have grown tired of games in first person perspective (one reason I have zero interest in VR) and didn't care for either Dishonored games. Not really wasting much money with Gamefly sending me a rented copy since there was nothing else out I'm interested in at the moment. Might be surprised though.
