Also I did my daughters bike last week with Spray.Bike. I stripped the complete bike to bare metal. Did 2 layers of their primer. After that a first layer of the color spray. Like you said the color is quite dusty...therefore after each layer of color I rubbed the frame down with cotton cloth to "remove" the overspray of colordust. You have to do this within 2 hours after spraying because the paint hasn't completely dried and is polishalbe with the cloth. I did 2 layers of color in total. After a night drying I did a first layer of transparent finish. If the finish starts dripping let it dry for at least 24h. Sand down the drips and do your second layer. If you have drips in the final layer...again let it dry for 24h...light sanding of the drips and just a small spray of finish to touch up the sanded aera. PS: the tips on fix the drips in the finish came from @oldshovel.

The way to avoid spray.bike going all crusty like that is hold the can closer. It needs to be about 10cm or even less for the colours. The primer and clearcoats more like 20cm. But once you get a bit of mud on it it won't matter!

Thanks - I did consider primer but their website said I wouldn't need it as that particular paint is "self-priming". Always wanted some rc30s. I wondered tho why the rc35 had brakes on the back but the rc30 on the front? Or am I being a dumbass. I managed to get a fairly rusted chrome gt freestyler back to life with tin foil and cheap coke and lots of elbow greese. With painting you learn from your mistakes. One thing I thought was no primer? Also your a little close whilst spraying.
@red_dread3 жыл бұрын
I genuinely have no idea about why the brakes were rear-mounted on the suspension models (and still were ten years later). Looks bad ass anyway, especially with the red Magura HS33s on my late 90s one. As for rusty chrome, the problem wasn't rust, it was the bare patches where the chrome had gone. So I had no choice. The paint is specified as self-priming so they tell you you don't need primer - that wasn't the cause of my problems. Also the close range is as per their instructions too - you're meant to be as close as 5cm with solid colours of this product, any further and it reacts with the air and gives you that clumpy finish you see on my overspray bits. I think if I'd sprayed them one at a time instead of being impatient and doing them side by side, the finish would have been a lot better!

The bike’s a treasure and deserves far better than this; sorry to be negative. That bike.paint is rubbish from what I’ve seen of it. Are you from Yorkshire? Girlfriends asking, she’s from Yorkshire!

No, Cheshire but born in Brighton. There's a lot of Yorkshire in this video though, because that's where Pace is from (plus a lot of the best MTB stuff like Hope, Orange etc).

You made several mistakes. Best is still to use a primer. Wer Sand it with 800 grid, then clean it and wear gloves. Than put a thin layer of primer on it and let it dry for 5 of 10 minutes. Do a second layer and let that dry for 24 hours or longer. Than sand it again with 800grid and clean it again. Again, don't touch it with your hands without gloves. Put a thin layer of color on it and wait again a few minutes. Repeat that, till you have a good color. Then sanding again, cleaning and the sand with the final layer. Ad that, till you reached your gloss. The paint needs to harden and this can take a while. Don't bold things on to soon, because the paint can still chip off. To be honest, I would have removed the paint. It is a good bike to practice on and I would have Don the complete frame.

Spray the frame to match

Ha, that would be wanton destruction on an even higher level

No way, that was a right pain. I’m already thinking about the next bike to ruin...

I think it looks amazing, I would rather paint the rest of the pink parts to match the fork then re do the fork. Just a thought

Thanks, I think if you don’t look too closely it looks amazing! Sadly the other pink parts are grips and cable outers though, which won’t paint.

TF do you care? I destroy bikes riding them.

I've forgotten how to ride a bike - it's been a while.
