Man hour rate x total man hours = service price man hour rate should factor in dump fees and time spent at the dump. If dump related cost is not factored in to your man hour rate then an additional charge should be applied to the job in addition. Always try to fully communicate all pricing with customers before starting the job that way there are no surprises for the customer. You don't want to spring on an additional dump fee without letting them know that there will be an extra cost up front....don't be like large cable companies no one NO ONE! Likes that.

This is probably one of the best lawncare/leaf videos on the market listen, people this guy knows what hes talking about listen to every word this guy is telling you and you will have a successful longterm lawn business if you don't if you don't then he is exactly right you will not be back the next season to do somebody's yard. A person has to get paid for the work that they do and if they have an employee they need to be able to pay that employee a livable wage.

I think we all start out all bright eyed, just really wanting so badly to work for ourselves and build something and that’s where we make pricing mistakes. But hopefully you learn quickly that either you’re building a sustainable business or you’re not. It’s not just working for a decent wage, but for better tools to do a more efficient job and to take on bigger jobs. Enjoying your videos and can really relate to what you’re saying.

you are right on wth what i charge.And when people start with "thats too much" i move on to the next. Yoo have to get that man hour rate to make it worth your time, to be able to pay your people a decent rate, to buy better equipment to make the job easier and more efficient, which allows you more profit and that grows your business. Thanks for sharing, there are definately alot of people who will learn from this.

GOOD VIDEO.... HERES A TIP, FROM A 35YR LANDSCAPE COMPANY OWNER. TO COMPACT THE LOAD, DON'T HAVE SO MUCH VENTILATION COMING FROM YOUR LEAFBOX. COVER THE TOP MESH TARP WITH A SOLID TARP, LEAVING APPROXIMATELY 1/4 OF MESH TO DO THE VENTING. YOU WILL FIND THE LEAF SUCKER WILL COMPACT THE DEBRIS WITH LITTLE TO NO AIR LOADS. U WILL FIT WAY MORE DEBRIS ON THE TRUCK AND MAKE LESS TRIPS TO THE DUMP.... HOPE THIS ONE SMALL TIP HELPS...

@27neverlose
@27neverlose 2 жыл бұрын
@@jesuschristfirst5775 Not at all, The air is still venting and the engine over revving with no resistance. The stain comes from stopping and starting your engine from loading it so fast, instead of continuing to work the machine as it was designed to do. Hauling air loads to the dump will end up costing a ton of wear and tear on the loaders as well as the trucks along with increased labor cost, not to mention the amount of fuel being wasted. We run Giant Vac/ Scag loaders with 30 and 60 horsepower engines. One machine is close to 20 yrs old with the same Wisconsin engine that only needs starter motors every few year's when they fail. You will see a huge difference this fall if you decrease your area of venting.... Hope this helps, good luck.

Great video as usual. I think I will do the same next fall with leaf clean ups and bill out total man hours. It makes sense as it's fair both ways to the contractor and client. I ran into the same situation that I quoted, got hired and when I did it, leaves were soaking wet. Ideally we want to do this when leaves are dry but when we don't have a choice with weather, we just have to get it done.

A lot of great sayings by you here! I had the same setup last year for cleanups. My one recommendation would be to throw a bagger on that walk behind and try to suck some of those leaves up before throwing them in the leaf loader. I noticed that it takes up maybe a 1/10th of the space in the truck bed if u mow them up first. Obviously the one with the oak leaves thats not feasible but with the smaller cleanups you maybe could do it

So essentially, it took 1 man hour per tree. Easy pricing would be to count the number of trees (5), multiply by a per man hour rate (say $60) and that is your minimum, so $300. Add dump fee and and a "buffer" fee and now the charge is $375-$400. Your rates may vary as will the size of the trees and the weight/wetness/ice of them. If it is late in the season, you'll have to decide if you need the job and charge a normal rate or if not, charge extra for the wet/ice difficulty.

Hi guys, there are valid points to both sides, and there is a place and time for everything , nothing or nobody is perfect in this world , so as we all know, everything has pros and cons , so we all have to weight the risks vs the rewards, of all that we do in life and in business , no need to offend each other and accomplish nothing in result, an open discussion should always be welcome, because that’s how we learn and grow and how great things get accomplished !. Europeans and Americans are the same people , please don’t forget that! Let’s learn from each other and exchange ideas, but please , in a respectful manner, Life is to short and precious, for all this non sense .

With your 3 man team that took 5 hours, if you were by yourself how long would the same job have taken you? Some people like to go solo, but they forget that a job that takes them 8-10 man hours, could be done in 4-5 man hours. And instead of only being able to charge $40/man hour they could charge $60/man hour. They get paid more, the client pays a little less, and everyone is happy, plus they get to hang out with some fellas or felleretts that they trained how to do just as good of work as they did.

this is one of my weekly lawns. The oaks at this place have a really heavy drop all at once and then shed for months really slow after that. I like to come in weekly for leaf clean up but this client ops for 3 clean ups one in nov, dec, and feb for the spring clean up. MAN THAT First clean up is always WILD!

Why not make them an attractive walk-in composting area made of wood fencing? I paid my handyman $33/hour plus materials. It took him 4 hours to make on 20' by 8'feet, 4 feet high. Then I pay high school athletes $20/hour to vacuum up the leaves, put them in the composting area and mix with manure. Then water and wait until spring. Depending on the climate and how moist it is, it should be mostly broken down and ready to spread. The homeowner gains a better yard, needs less or no fertilizer and can put kitchen waste under leaves. You gain getting paid extra for spreading compost and a happy customer. Plus, you don't have to haul away leaves! This is a good option for anyone with a little extra space. Its neither unsightly or smelly if everything is under a foot of leaves.

I was thinking about taking neighbors yard and going around just knocking on doors and asking people if they need work for raking leaves. I agreed with my friend to work together but I don’t know how much we should charge people. We would be working with rakes, brooms, etc. what do you recommend? great video and thank you

How'd you do? Small bagged mower, rake, trash can and dispose on site or in paper bags for trash pickup works wonders. Charge by the hour or job remembering that it'll take at least twice as long maybe 3 times when bagging leaves. So if it takes you 1 hour to push mow with no bagging, it is now 3 hours. If you charge $50 per hour, that's $150 for the job. Remember you should have insurance. Rocks FLY. Also gas, oil, blades, vehicle gas to get there, paper bags if necessary and general wear and tear on the mower. Plus taxes. So if you charge $50/hour it probably cost $7 in miscellaneous expenses leaving $43. Of that $43, you need to pay about 30% to the IRS leaving $30 per hour to you after taxes. $30/hour times 40 hours/week is $1,200. $1,200 times 50 weeks is $60,000 per year. Is that enough? That is a pre-tax gross average of about $85,000/year if you could do that year 'round or about $57,000/year working 8 months/year.

Like the way you stressed "in my area" cost of living for the area you live in makes a big difference. I left Colorado for a year to work in NC and couldn't believe how cheap things were while one of my coworkers couldn't believe how expensive it was compared to where he lived before. The area matters.

I notice you have massive piles of leaves and you're blowing them to the front. Wouldn't it be more efficient to grab a garbage can flip it on its side, fill it and then bring it to the truck. Then blow the remaining?
@alexjohnson6462
@alexjohnson6462 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct that blowing gigantic leaf piles libg distances is inefficient, but garbage cans are not the answer. Tarps are. When I first started out, I sort of specialized in leaf clean-ups and made all the same inefficiency mistakes I see all these KZbinrs make. The worst, by far, was large trash bags. Literally quadruples the time it takes you to do large leaf jobs. Then, I tried 55 gallon landscaper cans. Total waste of time - and also, try humping a 120 pound can of wet leaves across a giant yard 450 times. Almost as bad as bagging, but with the added element of being exhausting. Then I bought a powerful blower and did what this guy did, which was better, but still a big waste of time (increases job time by 40 percebt at least). Finally, I started using tarps and experimenting with different tarp sizes depending on if I was solo or working with others and also how wet the leaves were (small tarps are almost always better - its just more efficient to make s few extra trips than to hump giant tarps with 300 pounds of wet leaves). You divide the yard into sections and just blow each section into a pile and then rake it onto a small to medium sized tarp real quick and run up front with it. It is sooooooo much faster than trying to blow the entire yards leaves into the front -- I mean, that's just dumb, but I guess we all have to learn the hard way.

Last year was my first for leaf removal as the owner. I found it challenging to come up with a price that both the client and myself weren’t taking it in the shorts. Usually if I lowballed, they’d end up paying me some more out of the kindness of their heart. The only time I really got screwed was when a cop talked me down from $150 to $100, it ended up taking 2.5 hours with a helper. But we dumped the leaves in their woods.
