Sailed on this vessel many times between Dover and Calais , sad to see her leaving under the steam of a tug and not her own...... Thank you Pride of Dover for many safe sailings.

Both The Pride of Dover and The Pride of Calais were fine excellent ships in their days but the new ships The spirit of Britain and spirt of France have double the capacity of the dover and Calais
@stephenjohnson21953 жыл бұрын
Do we not have the capacity in our own dockyards to break up scrap vessels? We can break road vehicles, railway rolling stock, and even aircraft so why not ships. Just seems ludicrous to tow it to Turkey.

The Pride of Dover is at this time being broken up at Aliaga,Turkey. Her sister ship Pride of Calais has been renamed Ostende Spirit and is on the Ramsgate to Ostende service.

Had lots of great sailings on both ships when I was an international truck driver 😄 Shame they had to be towed all the way to Turkey for scrapping when we've got good facilities in the U.K. 🇬🇧 And we go on about the environment so towing it all that way is a nonessential only that's it's probably cheap labour that won 🙄

More likely they (the Turkish ship breakers) probably paid more money for them or they may have been the only bidders.

I sailed on her and her sister. Somewhere I have a picture of me at the age of eleven standing at one of the bottom row bow windows. Tragic end to what were young ships.

It is a shame I’ve sailed on her many times too, but I have to say it rattled like F&@K ! The sister ship p.o. Calais looked a little nicer when I was last on then , but the new ones are bigger and nicer .

I think I can translate: "The ship breakers are ship bullies if you ask me. In Wales there's an old ship rusting away and it's not been disturbed- it's called the Duke of Lancaster and it's on KZbin" :)
