Dunno why this, of all things, makes me realize how unique and staggering is the work of Ian Anderson. We will NEVER see/hear another like him. Great arranging, great performing.

LOVE THIS! If you would have told me a marching band would do something like this, I'd say no way. But here I am literally with tears in my eyes. Not sure why, but there it is. And gotta call attention to one particular part... did they really combine "Wond'ring Aloud" with "My God"? Wow! I thought I was imagining that at first, but nope. (And as others have said, I sure hope the boys see this, particularly Ian.)

AWESOME job! Not easy music to make fluid or march like. I wonder how many of the band members listened to the album, and how many audience members decided to look it up. How many new fans were born of this performance? Little seeds in the wind that will grow someday, I hope!

This performance is the "highlight" of UofA Band Day - about 50 high school marching bands from Southern Arizona compete for awards and standing to compete further at state competitions in Arizona. The high school marching band members and their family and friends are in the stands for the performances

Every single band member was on one leg -- including the sousaphones (tubas) who had to not only balance on one leg but hold their instrument over their head! My oldest son was a sousaphone player in this production

@@lizrosas5236 Kudos to all the band members, as I can't imagine how difficult it must have been. Such a fun musical moment to bring so many parents and viewers. Tell your eldest son that he and the band brought my family smiles and amazement way up here in Canada!

great perfomance. honestly, one of the best covers i heard in my life. what bugs me, if is it actually controversial to play music like this . i mean , in my mind, arizona is pretty religious state and the lyrics, especially from my god and loco breath could be controversial. i wonder if you got any negative reactions of this kind.

Tucson is thankfully the liberal open minded enclave of this beautiful state ((:

Ian Anderson wasn't criticizing all of Christianity......it was directed to people who use religion for financial gain and power as well as hypocrites.

Looks are deceiving- this is actually one of the most anticipated yearly performances the POA does since everyone is there specifically to see the band. The POA will perform part of the show at halftime for football games, they usually only get 5-6 minutes. The audience is on the side of the stadium that the band is facing, under and behind the camera, so you can't see most of them. U of A Band Day is a high school marching band competition, the POA performs their whole show for that year in the afternoon and the evening after the two main blocks of high school band performances. The high school awards are presented after the POA exhibition.

Only in the USA could JETHRO TULL be celebrated in this way and this style, here in the UK they don't exist, darling little boy bands and wannabes abound. No originality though, mostly covers of someone elses successes. You can't beat class.

I never understood the need for Conductors. Everyone knows what to do. He's just waving his arms around.
@Balikon5 жыл бұрын
Well "Everyone knows what to do" *because* there is a conductor. He coordinates the musicians. Try this *without* a conductor and everyone does want he wants. It would turn out to a total mess.

Yeah, sorry they are absolutely crucial to the success of the performance. The drumline and drum major watch each other religiously to ensure phasing does not occur while band members play splayed across 75+ yards ☺️💙🌵🌺

and the unsung western hero, he killed an Indian or three; then he made his name in hollywood, and set the white man free. please accept my apology, for my ancestry's misdeeds. they were, and still are in many ways, Thick As A Brick. 70 years ago, when I was but a boy, we would often play cowboys an Indians, and for some reason, I always elected to be an Indian. Truth be told, I was dancing with wolves, decades before Kevin Costner came along. Sincerely.
