I have zero interest in arcade games until Don makes a video about them then I’m just absolutely hooked. I still go back and watch all of the Don’s discount gaming videos regularly too. Reminds me of Killer Instinct 2. Where at the time the graphical and style changes looked good but didn't age as well as the first game. I'd still buy a re-release of this in a heartbeat.

Primal Rage and Primal Rage II Collection = Both Arcade games, the PlayStation port, the Sega 32X port and SNES port MUST become a thing and released for; PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and if possible Switch. I would buy it on freakin day 1 as I grew up loving Primal Rage !!!

Great interview Don! I discovered Primal Rage through the toys, as I was deep in my dinosaurs phase (not that I ever grew out of it) when the game came out. I didn't know there was a game until my dad came home from work one day and surprised me with the Genesis version. I'd love to be able to play 2 someday.

I went a looked up the copyright on Primal Rage and it was renewed in 2016 for a 10 year renewal. And it's current owner (until Oct 2026) is Warner Bros.

Don, you're a hero for doing this. As a huge fan of the retro MK games, this is like Christmas morning for me. Can you just imagine if this was officially released in the arcades back in the day? We would probably be getting excited for the release of PR12 right now. Looks like such a high quality game that was a labor of love. This takes away from the sting of Brad's departure, keep it up!

I doubt that due to every other similar level of fighting game dying out over time, but boy would it be great. I feel like PR is ripe for a group of fans to make a “…so we did it ourselves!” Sequel.

My slooth sense is tingeling. Don seems to be in some sort of cozy environment, with what might be a 3D TV in the background. Is this the livingroom of Don, or are we in the secret halls of 3D TV storage room heaven? Or even better, is Don's home office constructed solely of 3D TV's? (EDIT. Love the studio, but always kinda missed the vibes of Jonsey's garage)

Don this is an absolute find! This is beyond amazing to run into a game that was this far into production, have Alex get his hands on it and put time and dedication into it is truly magnificent. I personally wouldn’t have compared it to MK after seeing the footage, it gave me Killer Instinct 2 vibes because the character with the sword move set is reminiscent to Tusk. Awesome job on this!!! PR2 is owned by Warner Bros, who bought Midway. There is no box of components or parts, source code, notes or anything around in any warehouse. Atari closed up and sold or tossed everything in 2003. I have two complete original machines, as well as several board sets in my collection.

Actually we do know who owns the rights to Primal Rage it’s Warner Brothers when they bought out Midway. They even had a PR arcade cameo in their latest MK game. They just haven’t tried using any of Midway old IPs besides MK for whatever reason. The final PR2 source code is actually owned by AtariScott who runs California Extreme from what I’ve heard.

I played the game on Emulator. Its surprisingly a somewhat complex game if it came out and had balancing could have bean competitive. Also it secretly has the entire playable roster of the first game.

I want more weird and silly fighting games like this. I miss stuff like Primal Rage, Star Gladiator (Capcom’s Star Wars ripoff fighting game), Bloody Roar, and yeah even Time Killers. Not everything has to be for the ultra serious hardcore gamers.
