It’s a high demand religion, and that genuinely brings trauma to people. Obviously, Sasha had no responsibility for this, and it’s absolutely wrong to do something so heinous to both a person and to the community. It seems like that “religion hate” was just a scape goat. As said in their texts, this guy was NOT interested in an older person who shared that religion. But…he WAS interested in a 20-something woman of that religion. So… it was about something other than just being of the religion. My guess is that he just wanted a young woman to kill…and used the “I don’t like my parents religion” aspect to make that want of a young woman victim seem more acceptable/ “it’s revenge” in his mind.

Very well written. It’s a sick, sad story. We heard about her disappearance within a day or two because I live in a Mennonite community. The cooperation between the brothers is not only disturbing but should reflect on anything they want to be involved in from now on. Many people live on the rough edges of society and their very habits bring risks, this innocent, lovely lady lived the purest life possible and that makes this story almost impossible to comprehend. I grew up Mennonite until I was twenty one, and am still living in a big community. Many of us are not members anymore and may not agree with the protocol and convictions they have. But to be willing to hurt someone because of a difference of opinion is the epitome of evil. Thank you for your beautiful example of Christian love, Sasha.

As a former Mennonite watching this and reading the comments, I see things quite differently. It appears those who did not grow up Mennonite place them on a fairy tale pedestal. Mennonites are human, many comminities are rife with many types of abuse. I would suggest listening to The Plain Peoples Podcast for some context. While the stories there do not represent every Mennonite community or every circumstance, I think it will debunk the unrealistic view that outsiders have about my people. There are never any excuses for murder, but is it fair to paint a picture of purity and infallibility of any community? My heart breaks for Sasha, but it breaks my heart more that the truth is being ignored. Think about how hard it is for victims in these communities to come forward.....all because of the way the world outside views them as a whole.

As somebody who was born and raised in New Mexico, Albuquerque, specifically that reporter, is absolutely correct. I would be surprised if one out of ten people could pinpoint farmington on a map 😂 💀

It's actually very pretty there. I've thought about buying property there. I'm from Utah and used to drive through there on the way to Albuquerque to visit family.

I immediately recognized the town name. I’ve driven through Abq on my way to Taos. Did I pass it? Maybe I saw exit signs or something.

I know where it is. There's a Frito Lay or Pepsi plant there. Or there was in the 80s and early 90s.

I remember there was a boy in jr high that just hated me, on a daily. basis. I guess for being nice. He hit me with homework in homeroom. His dad was military. Glad he didn't kill me.
