People underestimate the value of a CM that can dribble. The whole pitch opens up even if they beat one guy. Too often dribblers have to play wide.
@daraotl51874 ай бұрын
True, and it's also one of the reasons Messi was so effective, bar his first couple of seasons where he played wide, he was given license to play wherever and that was often deep and central. Then he beats a midfielder and suddenly he's running at the centre backs, who can't track Henry/Eto'o/Villa/Pedro/Suarez/Neymar AND contest Messi. Leading to either balls in behind to these guys (and Messi's passing was sublime), or Messi mincing another defender and scoring. There are so few players, especially in the modern game which is so low-risk and systematic, who do this, probably because no one can do it with the consistency that he could. No manager wants to run the risk of losing possession... Unless it's Messi

If we look at their careers, Zidane didn't play like it's shown in his highlight videos in every match or even close to that, he gave one amazing game and then in some number of games he didn't do something amazing. And iniesta throughout is career was great in every match he played, mabye he didn't score or assist in every match but he always done the playmaking greatly.
