Vince Carter was made famous in Toronto, but his best basketball years were with the New Jersey Nets. The 05-06 season was his first full season with the Nets, and VC had possibly his finest all around season.

I think 06-07 was a better regular season. His 50 Nets games in 04-05 was MVP level, too. Also he should have been in serious MVP contention in 00-01 with the Raptors: Nearly 28ppg shooting 46% and over 40% from 3 while aslo averaging over 1 blk per game and having just 2 TOs per game as the only scorer on the team. So this is maybe his 3rd or 4th best season. 24 6 and 5 were pretty much his career averages in his first 10 seasons after all.
@sauce556
@sauce556 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikesannitti6042 He definitely put up better season numbers in 2007. But for VC lifers when it comes to Vince its not so much his numbers but his mentality that lets you when hes zoned in. In 2001- zoned in. Same as 2005 & 2006. His mentality was strong. In 2007...as we saw in the playoffs - he wasn't there. He struggled heavily against the Cavs in the 2nd round and even had struggle games in the first round. His numbers were down across the board in the playoffs. In 2006...it was just the opposite, all his numbers across the board shot up in the playoffs and you knew you could never question his confidence that year.
@mikesannitti6042
@mikesannitti6042 3 жыл бұрын
@@sauce556 I do think most of it boils down to he shot 40% in the 07 playoffs as opposed to 46% in the 06 playoffs. 22 7 and 5 as opposed to 30 7 and 5. His rebounds and assits did similarly increase in the playoffs that year, he just wasn't making shots at a great rate. Maybe he was burnt out from playing all 82 games that year, but I really think that's what cost him nearly 8 ppg in the playoffs and maybe elevating the Nets past the Cavs since they lost in a hard fought 6 game series even with Vince's shot being a bit off.

Vince Carter as a Net hugely underrated. He was a slightly more explosive scorer as a Raptor. However he was a better playmaker as a Net. Probably a more well rounded offensive player for Jersey. Carter came up huge for the Nets in the 2006 playoffs

Just something I’ve noticed over time watching Vince Carter play. After he left the Raptors, I’ve always felt the in-game commentators would subtly take shots at Vince’s game even when he’s undeniably dominant. The first Cleveland game highlights in this video is a perfect example. That 3 pointer he drained over two Cav players that the commentator called a bad shot before Bill Walton called him out on it just grinds my fucking gears. If Kobe or Lebron took that same shot, the tone would and has always been very different. It’s just so obvious to me that the NBA business machine has been “actively passive” on Vince even during his peak years. I watched literally every one of his games during this season and I always noticed the somewhat passive/negative tone on his shot selection. Here is one that always gets me heated- every time Vince is on a roll and he’s taking jumpers that he is comfortable with but the commentator consider those “circus shots” or “bad shots” and he then follows with a drive, 9/10 times they’ll say something to the effect of “now, if he can just do that more often, he’d be unstoppable”…… HE ALREADY IS UNSTOPPABLE! It’s just unbelievable to me that no matter what Vince does, they’ll find a way to be critical. Has anyone else noticed this over the years? I know half of these guys never picked up a ball in their life but man I really can’t help but notice the change in tone on Vince vs. other elite players that he was neck and neck with during his prime years. Sorry for the rant.

Totally agree. Even in 2001 Charles and Kenny on TNT bagging on him for shooting 3s. They wanted him to always drive to the basket every single time. Marv Albert did a lot of complaining during the 06-07 season too (VC played all 82 games, averaged 25 6, and 5), but every time he shot jumpers Marv got on him. The media in general wanted him to be someone he wasn’t. They anointed him the next MJ, and because he didn’t live up to that, it’s always glass half empty outlook.

No doubt about it. I followed Vince's career as he is my favorite player of all time (MJ and Bron being 2 and 3) and there is no doubt in my mind that once LAL and Kobe became very popular in America, and once Wade and Lebron arrived, the love and respect for Vince was all but gone. While that's sad, what's much more important is that at that very same moment it happened, the way he was treated by the refs changed drastically as well. I am not into conspiracy theories, but when it comes to the NBA, i am. There is no doubt in my mind that the NBA treats teams and plavers very differently depending on their popularity (for the obvious reason$). I saw many NJ era games and it was blatantly obvious. Even in games vs LAL or Miami, i would see that Vince would have a hard time getting calls, while the new mainstream darlings at that time; Kobe, Wade, Lebron or even Melo, would get 9/10 calls on their favor. The league and the analysts use the argument of "The player is just getting old so he is not attacking the basket as often anymore" which while technically true, does not explain all the calls that are not longer called but where when the player was more popular. Ironically, Old Lebron is now on the receiving end of the same shady treatment in a very obvious way. Old Lebron has literally lead the league in attacks at the basket, yet the new league darling, Gianni's (An Amazing player as well, no disrespect or hate) averages literally TWICE THE AMOUNT OF FREE THROW ATTEMPTS PER GAME. That does not make since in this, or any other planet. Sadly, this i believe affected Carter stats and therefore his career as he easily could have averaged 2 to 5 more points per game in each of his post (being ultra popular) seasons. Unfortunately things like this go unnoticed, by casual and mainstream fans, who have fallen into the trap of the "It's all bout them rings 😵‍💫" take, and no longer use the eye test to measure a players greatness. Rings, preferential treatment or not, Vince is one of the GOATS. No question.

NBA used to be great during these times... I feel like Curry broke the league around 2016. Nothing personal against Steph, (who’s an all-time great) I just don’t like todays league as much.. too high scoring it’s like no lead is ever safe and it’s normal to see scores in the 130’s/140’s sometimes. Doesn’t feel as competitive, feels like I’m watching a show made for casual fans. I would rather have real defense and real competition back. Just my 2 cents.

We all wanted him to fulfill his role as the 2000s MJ and as the years wore on and that didn't happened we look for something new and exciting...plus the scrawny kid from 96' who had a noticeably lower natural sealing, blew past him by 2002 and never stopped improving..eventually taking the mantle as the 2000s MJ...AKA Kobe Bryant.
@mikesannitti6042
@mikesannitti6042 3 жыл бұрын
@@fcbotieno that's not really true. Even as late as 2009 vince and kobe's career numbers were basically a wash. Kobe just continued to get his minutes and fgas deeper into his 30s, when Vince decided to start deferring to younger guys. But Vince was absolutely snubbed in his second to last NJ year in 07-08. Even though he was already shooting less, he averaged over 21ppg 6rpg and 5 apg. Only 2 other players in the league averaged at least those numbers: Kobe and Lebron. You could make the case he was the 3rd best overall player in the league, and he didn't even make the all star team.
@fcbotieno
@fcbotieno 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikesannitti6042 I understand the numbers, what I already said was we all moved on from his "brand" for a number of reasons. Hence the voting selection for the all star. VC was the greatest show on earth during the peak of Shaq, the best of Magic Tmac, mvp Iverson, killer Kobe. But the game moved on from his "brand" by 07-08 because he was not grabbing headlines, no hype, no mvp top 3, no conference finals, no finals, no championship, no finals mvp, no scoring title...nothing. By 07 08 he wasn't flying through the air like 98-2001. Without the biggest asset he is known for (dunking), 10 years later in the league you need new assets to remain relevant and VC never acquired that(I'm NOT talking about his game he was damn good even late 2000s, and I'm not talking about his numbers which were respectable) you need new accolades to remain relevant as new talent comes in, time goes on and the game evolves. For whatever reason Vince got lost in the expanse of the league. I definitely think he was to be at the Allstars in 08. But the definition of what happened is nobody cared enough to vote him in.

Attention Kai! I just looked at your channel. You need to change your mindset and utilize social media to market your knowledge. There's no ifs, ands, or buts about it. You should be speaking at conferences, offering online classes, and a podcast. I highly recommend you study and mimic Coach Nick who runs the BballBreakdown youtube channel.

This was his best year of his career. His 01 year was his 2nd best and many argue it was his best but vince right here was playing st his smartest and just as efficient nearly. People dont realize Vince in his prime was a mega superstar. Super underrated In terms of his offensive bag . If he only had that grit to be that top dog he could been. I remember in 01 kg said after he saw Vince in the 2000 Olympics that Vince was playing angry and determined if he had played like that during the nba seasons he could have been THE BEST player in the game . That was the difference between him and Kobe imo . Kobe wanted it more and that's when kobe catapulted but you cannot argue that Vince offensive game is up there with anyone's. Top 10 finisher number 1 dunker. Flame you from midrange off the post from 35 feet and hed do it with you in his grill . Didnt matter good defense rarely bothered him

💯this era of vc nets were good but only healthy for 2 playoff runs. And lacked another offensive option besides VC. Kidd was great but wasn’t a scoring threat.

@MaxaMillion711 you right!! They never had a decent big man since Kmart left. The eastern conference was getting stronger with Wade and Bron coming together. Still the Pistons and over teams was getting better
