Welcome to WATCHES TV and the new episode of PRIMETIME - Watchmaking in the #news!
After a refreshing summer break, we're back with a comprehensive recap of the latest developments in the watchmaking industry, particularly on the #business front. Everything you #love is here: suspense, passion, high speed, big money, a pinch of disappointment, a nugget of fear, along with a lot of respect for watches and the people who make them for us.
Many brands have been holding off on launching their new timepieces because of the #Geneva #watch Week and other events. So we are here to discuss some significant changes involving key figures' shifts, #highlights of important deals, and declining Swiss watch exports, a topic we've covered before but has now clearly accelerated. We'll break down what this means for the industry, addressing the implications and exploring the outlook moving forward. While some social media posts and blogs are sounding alarm bells, suggesting a doomsday scenario, we believe there's still room for optimism, even in these changing #market conditions. Let's get started!

what on earth is going on with the editing of this video? hundreds of cuts and a constantly panning camera - makes me nauseous. and also it wouldn't hurt to leave some pauses in for the viewer to be able ro take in all the information.

I'm a long time subscriber of the channel and I understand they have to change things up to keep it interesting but I agree, they should tone it down a bit. There's a lot to digest and its very fast paced with a lot of camera movement and cuts that make it seem even faster than it is. That said, I don't envy the task and balancing act of preventing total boredom with this type of information and making something that's too energetic, which for all I know could be a very fine line. They're very good though, they'll definitely get it dialed in.

As an enthusiast, I would love nothing more than being able to buy a luxury watch without any of the nonsense at the AD. Having to spend thousands of euro before you are able to get the watch you would love, while there are 10 brand new models on the local grey market website from the current year🙄

I love all the talk of Rolex crash... well, Rolex and many other brands are "Down" from the stupidly inflated Covid era prices due to down turn in supply and spike demand during 2021/22, but the price of a Rolex is still higher than it was in 2019 when adjusting for inflation ... and just about every model (especially stainless sport) is sold with in seconds of delivery to the AD..

I think any “adjustment” we see in the market has been brought upon the industry by itself …this is very similar to the movie and TV business: endless remakes, endless expensive follies, endless, ENDLESS bland marketing that always expensively misses the point and does little except keep ad agencies and consultants in business. A smaller, healthier business is better in the long run?

While I am at it : the professional auction business can go jump in a lake ( Geneva has a good one). They invaded this space and dragged it through the tasteless, oligarch space they invented 20 years ago for no other reason than to make coin and to break the personal link people felt for their watches and their collections and turned the pieces into nothing more significant than trading tokens.😢

The long-effective luxury paradox , created during the high water-mark of globalisation, circa. 2002, with help from lightweight pop-stars, so-called athletes ( read: over-paid men who play with balls) oligarch sons and brattish movie-stars, was that everyone could have the thing expressly designed and marketed as exclusive. That gig is up : “luxury” needs to shit or get off the pot : no more $4000 iPhone cases that don’t fit in a year; no more blanket sponsership of broad-audience “sports”; no more standards-free movie and tv production placement. It is , in the irony of ironies, FAKE LUXERY! Apparently, despite what Boris Johnson may says : you cannot have your cake and eat it….(Marie-Antoinettes mis-quote notwithstanding)❤

I appreciate your content but let’s call it what it really is. This a a crisis for the Swiss watch industry. The quartz crisis was more about archaic manufacturing processes than it was about quartz itself. Now we see the Swiss watch industry: 1. More and more manufacturing outsourced to China. No disrespect meant to China as I respect their manufacturing skills. But is a Swiss watch really Swiss my more? 2. Less and less innovation in watches and more and more conglomerates and shareholders to please. Collectors are no longer the pillar of Swiss watch manufacturing. Shareholders are the main pillar. 3. MSRPs rising. This not because of higher quality watches and more about the cost of doing business in Switzerland. 4. Competition from other countries such as Germany, Austria, Japan. And should China decide to not just supply components and instead to continue to launch new brands … then we’ll, it’s gonna be extremely tough. 5. Less and less relevance of authorized dealers and their multitude of games such as bundling (forcing customers to buy other watches they don’t want to get the one they want). People are fed up. 6. The large decline if prices in the secondary market. This is especially true for brands that have ridden the wave for too long and not engaged with their customers and simply changed dial colors to produced yet another “limited edition”. 7. The massive over production by numerous brands driven by greed and a disconnect from collectors. This also comes from an over reliance on authorized dealers that have their own shareholders to please and thus objectives not aligned to the brands. 8. Massive supply of excellent watches from 1990 onwards that are circulating on the secondary market. Neo-vintage and they work well still and are much cheaper than current production watches. They are often more rare and well made compared to the same old stuff we keep seeing in current production pieces. 9. Increased trust in buying online from the likes of chrono24 and such. Collectors are smarter now and will be spending their money more carefully buy buying online and preowned. 10. The decline in secondary watches prices due to greed from brands and ADs with oversupply. Even res collectors care about secondary watch market prices as we sell our watches to make room for others. But with big losses from the moment one leaves the AD, it is getting harder to justify this indulgence of collecting. Most of us have more than one luxury watch and unless we have confidence in it retaining its value to a degree, we will be much more cautious in buying more. So yeah, in summary, wake-call for the swiss watch industry. I mean no disrespect to anyone. The above points are mh personal opinion. I run the GP Laureato Fan club on FB Group and we deep dive into all aspects of Girard-Perregaux watches … past, present and future. Best wishes from Singapore 🇸🇬

Guess few people went through your long summary, but it’s a very good summary and I agree with your analysis. From my point of view the industry players still fail to understand that customers are fed up with the neverending price increases for products that are far from being innovative, the games of faking the shortages, and so on as you described. No, they don’t get it. And not only the prices increase every year, they also now try to persuade the public that full retail price has to be paid, no discounts! I’d also like to mention, they are trying to fool their clientele with products made of titanium or other materials (like it’s some super innovative stuff) for insane prices with the excuse manufacturing costs or such materials are higher, but the reality is different. Even ADs seem not to realize, if I have to pay full retail, I am going to buy from the brand’s boutique or I may not buy at all. They will disappear. The problem in this industry is also that these players don’t really like to be criticized (been banned from Zenith instagram 😂, Zenith 😂😂!!) I haven’t heard any of these journalists tell the truth to bring the companies and their CEOs back to earth, back to reality. It’s nauseating.
@DA-ju3iv
@DA-ju3iv 16 күн бұрын
By the way, I like the Laureato, but it’s an old product, old movement and I’m never going to be persuaded to pay full retail for an outdated product. I think secondary market prices make more sense, unless there is any AD around that hasn’t lost sanity.

Sorry but your video was unwatchable - jump zooms timed with vocal delivery may be cool for kids but not for these old eyes. You also run your volume significantly higher than any other channel I watch, uncomfortably so. Please give your video editor a sharp rap over the knuckles. I'll try once more on the next PRIMETIME (did you know that use of capital letters in this way is also considered to be shouting?) before unsubscribing, not something I want to do. 😢
