People in the comments asking for a new season either don’t realise the brilliance of Phoebe’s writing and her judgement to not continue or they haven’t watched enough forced sequels/remakes. Don’t ask for it, just enjoy the masterpiece the series is.
@oa55382 жыл бұрын
The good thing is I know that if there is another season, it will be because Phoebe thinks there’s more to learn and experience for her character, rather than because people want it. I love fleabag and I’m pretty confident it will never be ruined because Phoebe Waller-Bridge knows the value of her work and isn’t going to make another season just for money or to please her fans, which has been the ruin of so many shows (take stranger things, for example).
@daisyaston99872 жыл бұрын

@EarlofSedgewick Жыл бұрын
It's the perfect extension of the concept. It makes everyone's relationship to the characters that much deeper. His ability to perceive a deeper level provides us with the same experience too. Throughout the two series, the audience is Fleabag's confidant. We get invited in as the trusted friend and hear her true reactions. But more subtely these asides serve a storytelling function in and of themselves. When Fleabag is making the asides, she is dissociating from her real world and instead addresses an idealized version (us). Why is she doing this? It could have just been a comic gimmick, but that dissociation is representing her trauma defense mechanism. It's how she copes. The dramatic tension in season one is "what happened to her best friend", and we only find out those details when Fleabag is emotionally overwhelmed. At those points, she is no longer talking to the audience because she can't separate her self from her emotional recollections, and we follow her shift in perspective to a flashback. When she regains control, we are once again addressed. It's the very medium of storytelling that provides us with detailed knowledge of the character's psychology. And because Phoebe is so completely charming, we can't help but make the empathic connection with her. So when we get to the second season and the priest suddenly notices those asides, we are shocked. He shouldn't be able to see that! He is noticing the mechanism and, more importantly, that there's something beneath it. It's palpable vulnerability, and we experience a bit of that too because we went through the first season. We know Fleabag's flaws, and now someone else does too, as if by magic. It's not that we're necessarily happy that Fleabag had found someone, it's that we get to experience some of that recognition, that feeling of 'being seen'. And it feels wonderful and surprising and slightly unsettling and might even give us some butterflies. So thankful I get to have seen this show 🙌 it's just so brilliant! 😍

Okay, so i think this is why the pain is so attractive. Because it's completive. Both of them come away much stronger and much more sure of themselves. I don't think "underrated" is the right word for this series. It was recognized by quite awards (4 Emmys). It was not as popular as it should be for an excellent show.
