Deepak M Well that’s a slightly invalid statement, because Shakuntala Devi is actually known to have had a spunky and fun side, and let’s be honest and acknowledge that Indian audiences like the integration of music and dance to lift the mood of an otherwise serious movie. To compare this movie with ‘Gandhi’, which was based on the partition (a much more grave subject) is a little bit random...? It has more to do with money. At the end of the day bollywood is still a business. And the producers wanna make the movie entertaining and massy so that it appeals to the masses. Box office doesn’t work the same on OTT platforms as it does in theatre but still, money plays a role. And that’s why masala movies are a thing, cause that’s what sells.

To all the pseudo-intellectuals and self-proclaimed geniuses/mathematicians here, Shankuntla Devi was also a cheerful and fun-loving woman, APART from being the 'Math Genius' she was and this film captures the essence. Not all women-centric films or biopics are supposed to be depressingly serious/dark. Although this film does look a bit caricature-ish, but the makers have made this with permissions from Shakuntla Devi's family and people who knew her. So stop with your baseless assumptions that Shakuntla Devi would've hated this and that. It's a 'film' at the end of the day, and not a mathematics lecture. It's supposed to connect with people who may not have even heard of Shakuntla Devi in their lives They will get to know her and her achievements through this film, and get entertained as well. It's NOT a documentary to showcase her intellect (we already know how brilliant she was), rather a cinematic portrayal of how she was, as a woman and as a mother.
@kartikrai34344 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Having watched 'A beautiful mind', 'The Man who knew infinity', and Mission Mangal' , TBH I was thoroughly entertained after watching Mission Mangal. I gained a lot as well. Both the English movies captured the essence of the person portrayed in each film. But a direction does and should have creative liberty. Where were these pseudo-intellectuals when a few years back, no one even used to question about this. Always want to compare stuff with Hollywood. You are not the only audience that the film has to cater. Trailer aaya nahi ki intellect prove krne sab aa jaate hai. STOP COMPARING FOR GOD SAKE. Meaningful cinema ye bhi hai, depends what you want to take from it. Bollywood movies thrive on emotions and direction has to take such nuances to make it more relatable. Let the Hollywood and Bollywood movies both exist. THANK YOU!!!!!

And the pseudo intellectuals that you are talking about are called educated audience in general who have increased big time since the past few years because people are craving for good content and if they aren't satisfied then it's definitely a big deal for people involved in film making. Comparisons are made to bring the best out of people in the film industry and Hollywood isn't the only industry that we are comparing bollywood with mind you! It's really pathetic that people assume that someone bashing bollywood is ultimately preferring Hollywood. If you see some of the malyali and bengali cinema of India you will definitely know how to make a biopic. Regional cinema captures the beauties of the biopics in an uncharred way. @ashishilluminati4 жыл бұрын
Nobody is criticising the inclusion of family angle. The problem is with the treatment. The trailer shows her dancing and mouthing over the top dialogues. A biopic should be more realistic. See the trailer and you will find shots where she is travelling in car like a 80s Bollywood song, or dancing in one shot..which makes it more filmy and doesn't seem believable. As they did with Mission Mangal too. Made it an unintentional comedy. A better biopic would be like Nandita Das' Manto or Darkest Hour (on Winston Churchill), Imitation Game (on Alan Turing), Attenborough's Gandhi - which was much more grounded. A treatment like that is a much more effective way of storytelling.

It doesn't seem to be a biopic, Just a typical Bollywood movie

It IS a biopic 😑

@@rigzin1384 guess u haven't watched. That's now how biopics are ! Showing a legend in bad light and dramatizing daughter's emotions and ego. Shameful of director to show a legend in a bad light.

The director had to take a really important decision as to how to portray the film. I would say she was really smart in recognizing her audience.😎

Well, if I'm right you are saying that the director knew how Indian audience only want songs, dance and lame jokes. Right? P.S.-I'm just asking whether you are thinking like that or not.
@dynamicchessclub91754 жыл бұрын
@@AdityaSingh-nb8fj I meant most people in India don't know Shakuntala Devi. If the film was portrayed like a documentary, It wouldn't be trending. So she has basically transformed an on-screen boring character to a charming one. Coz honestly, who loves mathematics or a mathematician??😂 So just like Mary Kom became famous after her biopic,same thing is gonna happen to our genius mathematician of all time.
